After reading the book ¨Seeing Red¨, a question that I am still wondering about is what they are going to do now that they have found the alter to Freedom Church and everyone knows the true story of what happened to the Church. If they are going to rebuild and have it become a church again or not. Also, if the church were to be rebuilt, if Red and his family would go to the church that they always went to or if they would go to Freedom Church.

One connection that I have made is a text-to-text connection between this book and Harper Lee´s ¨To Kill a Mocking Bird¨. The reason I have made a connection between these two books is that they both are teaching about equality and racism. In ¨Seeing Red¨, there are many examples shown of racism, a couple of example are that black people are not allowed to go to the nearby church and that a cross was burnt on someones property just because they were black.

Now that I have finished reading the book and most of the conflicts have been solved, there is still one big question left . . . will Thomas ever forgive Red for what he did? Even though what Red did was almost unforgivable, I still am infering that after some time that Thomas will start to forgive Red and his anger will start to go away. I also infer that Thomas might even come back to visit Red once he starts to forgive him.

One part of the book that creates the best image in my mind was when Red told Rosie that they were staying. The text said ¨I heard a squeal from inside, and Rosie flung the door open, her bathrobe only half over her bright pink nightgown. I explained everything to her but she kept blinking like she might still be dreaming, but her little heart lips were making a big smile¨ This helped me visualize what Rosie was wearing (a bright pink night gown with a bathrobe on top) and what some of her face features looked like (little heart lips).

The main character Red changes a lot from the beggining to end of the story. He starts noing nothing about how unfair the black people in his town are treated. Throughout the book he learns why so many kids didn´t go to school for a long time, why there are no black people at his church, why a cross was burned on a black persons property and more. At the end of the book he is much more educated about these issues and is making a stand to change the future.

I think the theme of the book ¨Seeing Red¨ is that everyone should be treated equally no matter what their race is. The book shows this theme in the story many times in many different ways. I think this is the theme because it is what the book is trying to teach people about. Another theme of the book ¨Seeing Red¨ is that anybody can make a difference and change the future. This is a theme of the book because that is one of the most important thing that Red learns is that he can make a difference and he did.

The authors writing style was from the perspective of Red the main character. This allowed the reader to understand exactly what Red was going through and know what he is thinking. If the book was written any other way it would be confusing and hard to follow. For example, when Red found the map he didn´t tell a single person so he was the only person still alive that new about other than Ray Dunlop so it would be very confusing for the reader and they would not know what was happening for most of the book until the very end. I think that the authors writing style made the book what it is.

My opinion of the book ¨Seeing Red¨ is that it is a very good book and that it teaches a very important lesson about equality and treated others equalily no matter what their race is. Another reason this book was a great book was the amount of detail put into it which allowed the reader to fully understand the story and visualize what was happening. This book made me realize the importance of treating others equally and not jugding a book by its cover. This book was a very good book.
