A guilty conscience will eat away at a person from the inside, if a person feels guilty they will be afraid of anyone finding out the truth, therefore will be very paranoid. There's nothing worse than the feeling that everyone knows your secret and is just judging you for it. A guilty conscience will make a person lose trust, friends, and sleep, because they are just to worried about someone finding out. We saw this in both "The Black Cat" and "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. In "The Black Cat" the narrators guilty conscience gave him away and told on him with the tapping on the wall where the body was. In "The Tell Tale Heart" the narrator had a moment where he went crazy thinking that the police officers knew, that they were mocking him.
