How:  To calculate the height of a mountain, scientists would measure the distance between two points on the ground and then measure the angles between the top of the mountain and each point. 
What:  Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world with a peak of 29,028ft (8847m) above sea level.
When: The height of Mount Everest was discovered in 1865.
