         <description><![CDATA[<div>Who:&nbsp; In 1865, Andrew Waugh announce that the height of Mount Everest is 8,840 m (29,002 ft) high, after several years of calculations based on observations made by the Great Trigonometric Survey.&nbsp;<br>How:&nbsp; To calculate the height of a mountain, scientists would measure the distance between two points on the ground and then measure the angles between the top of the mountain and each point.&nbsp;<br>What:&nbsp; Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world with a peak of 29,028ft (8847m) above sea level.<br>When: The height of Mount Everest was discovered in 1865.<br>Why: The height was probably calculated so that people planning to climb the mountain know how high the summit is. </div>]]></description>
