Climate: To begin the story we know that Anna had a husband but now her husband is gone. This causes her to become agoraphobic and depressed. The beginning of the story is very sad due to this. She is a very rich person though and spends her days watching movies, reading, and people watching. 

Characters: Anna the main character and has lived in the neighborhood for a while. Olivia who is her daughter that lives with Anna. Ed is Anna's husband that is gone in the story. Jane who is the new family into the neighborhood and is the wife. Ethan who is new to the neighborhood and is the teenage boy part of the new family. We find out about Ethan at the end of the story however. We are lead to believe that the antagonist is Alistair which is the husband of the new family. At the end of the story we find out that it had been Ethan the whole time that was the antagonist. He had been the one who was doing everything that tested and made life harder for Anna. He reveals that he was the one that committed the murder that she had got caught up in. He also then goes onto trying to kill her that night. Once the new neighbors move in; the Russels. She meets them which would include the father, the mother, and their teenage son. Her first impressions on this family is that the dad seems a bit off, the mother seems completely normal and quite nice, and the son seems extremely pleasant and nice. She starts to watch them and their life through a camera zoomed in on their house in her free time. At this point in the story she and Ethan have become a lot closer and have been talking a lot and hanging out together. He seems to be a very nice boy to her and so she continues to talk to him and call him. She soon feels something weird with this new family and she continues to watch. Ethan and her have been talking a lot more at this point. He tells her about how bad his father is to him and his mom and how he is scared. This makes her more intrigued to watch this family even more. When she looks back into the zoomed in camera she sees the wife dead with a knife stabbed in her back. She immediately calls Ethan and he answers and sounds super scared. After talking for a while we are lead to believe that Alistair killed his wife Jane. This however makes her now involved. She didn't see who did kill Jane but Ethan convinces her that Alistair did it. They talked for a while and Anna is convinced even more. Ethan talks to her and tells her how scared and worried he is about Alistair and she comforts him and has no intention of challenging who he tells killed Jane. She and Ethan continue to talk more and more. One night though she wakes up and Ethan is sitting on her bed. She is startled but he is not. Anna is a little worried but also thinks about how nice he is and so she asks why he is there. This point she becomes even more concerned and scared and worried when he answers. He tells her that he has been coming in every night and watches her sleep and goes around her house. He tells her that he made a copy of her house key. He says that he is attracted to her. He continues without a pause to say that he also had been talking to her online disguised as someone else. She had told all of her secrets to this person which essentially in the end was telling all of her secrets to Ethan. He had taken pictures of her sleeping and changed her phone password so she could not call the police. He then tells her that he is the one who killed Jane and had framed Alistair to make her believe it wasn't him. He also tells her that he is a psychopath and his family is scared of him. All of this information shocks Anna. In this time he pulls out a box cutter and starts to move closer to her. It helps that she knows her way around her house but Ethan is insane. He kicks him to get away and runs downstairs then upstairs and she has to face her fear and go outside up onto the roof. She gets up and her roof is like a garden. She hides in a greenhouse but notices that he is waiting just outside, so she sprints out. Out of nowhere he jumps on top of her and is about to kill her when she talks to him. She tells him about his mother and father and he stops in shock. She then hugs him and he freezes. She takes over on top of him and pushes him off of the roof to fall to his death.
