The purpose of this activity was to look at our why and apply that to how our classroom would look like in person. Then, we can take components of the in person classroom and apply it to online learning with our sweet kiddos! There can still be similar themes, like connection and love, it will just look a little different! I learned that my why effects both in person as well as online learning!! Apply it to both! This information will be used directly by me in my ISD role through online learning. I will be creating an online environment that takes into account my classroom values, even if it may look different than in person. Questions I have would be for different strategies to implement these goals and values.

I realized that many of the hallmarks of my in-person classroom teaching practice can be transferred to remote learning. Communicating clearly with students and providing consistent, clear feedback can happen in many ways, not just in a classroom. Creating differentiated learning activities that have a basis in real world applications is just as possible remotely as it is in-person. While engaging students may look different, it is going to be just as vital, and I can use the techniques I've learned over my years as a teacher to help support their engagement in class, whether that class is virtual or in a brick and mortar building.

I learned that there will probably always be technical difficulties. I also learned that there is a lot that goes into preparing and planning. Remote learning has the same purpose as in person learning but there are some differences that are important to consider such as the social piece or the structure that school may bring. This is important to use to consider adaptions and availability for my students and how I can best meet their needs.

-Megan Young

My biggest take away also was that asynchronous learning can still be very interactive and can keep students engaged; we just need to utilize the tools to do that.

I learned that as an educator I don’t have to have all the answers but I so need to be the role model and students will reflect the attitude that I show them I have about remote learning. I learned there are a wide variety of tools that we can utilize to still have effective learning happen. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and skills that we can carry with us as educators throughout our career.

In this activity I learned that remote learning still encompasses many aspects of in person learning, even though it may look different than before. For example, we can still listen to music in the classroom but instead of it being played on the class speaker system, it goes through each person's computer. Students can even turn the music off if they want to! I also realized and was reminded that remote learning still showcases some of my personal strengths like optimism and warmth, which I feel have taken on a greater (or more visible) role in the learning process. I have so many questions about how to DO asynchronous learning. I feel like this lesson took so much preparation...I don't know how I will be able to do that while maintaining my sanity!

I felt the purpose was to not only give us time to reflect on how this year will no doubt be different, but also show us great tools and resources that we will be able to use in our own practices. I learned that while this year is going to be a challenge, there are tons of great resources out there to help me grow as an educator and do things in a way I may never have experienced otherwise. I will be able to take some of the tools here and apply them in my own classroom, which is so great! Thank you!

This session made me realize the negative view I have of distance learning. A lot of the things I was writing down for scenario 2 were negative in nature. I took a step back and thought back to my why and realized how I can take those negatives (that I am sure so many of us are feeling) and turn them into a positive. This session forced me to start thinking how I can achieve
my goals and what I want in my classroom in a digital setting!

It's easy to think of remote learning as being a significantly inferior way to teach, but when we began to compare what in-person and remote look like, sound like, and feel like, they were remarkably similar. This is because both methods are still aiming for the same goal, to teach humans. I want to keep this in mind as moving toward remote learning may feel daunting, but it also it an exciting adventure to embark on. During the last two days, we have already seen great examples of how this type of learning can be engaging and successful.

This is a really useful example of an engaging asynchronous lesson.
1. Built in Google docs could be linked in OneNote or Canvas
2. Visually stimulating
3. Lots of animations
4. Use of colors
5. Different interactions:: think, visualize as well as padlet, word garden, etc...
6. Help is just a click away - this is huge
7. Videos of the teacher are brief and move the lesson forward.
8. Wraps up with student reflection and sharing giving students a choice as to how they will share.
9. Gets students interacting by commenting in Padlet or Flipgrid

I learned that while there are many differences between remote and in person learning, there are many areas that overlap. I will focus on those common areas and how to make them even better as well as how to take my ideal situation (in person instruction) and bring more of that into the remote learning environment.

This lesson showed me that whether I'm teaching in person or remotely, my main goals and values of teaching (making connections, cultivating curiosity and excitement, showing and spreading love and warmth, etc.) can all still be taught and integrated into my classroom everyday! :)

I also loved using Jamboard and asynchronous learning! Excited to use these tools this year.

I think the purpose of this lesson was to help us realize there are so many overlaps between online and classroom teaching. They are both beautiful opportunities to learn.
I learned how to use at least three new resources! I enjoyed thinking about the difference between conceptualizing and learning.
This information makes me excited to start the new school year because I believe learning can still happen and still be fun!

How did you make that cool booklet?! And how do I take Ms. vB's IB Bio class...

This lesson helped me see that even though our setting may have changed we can still continue to build connection and make learning meaningful. I need to get creative and build my toolbox.
