This was the first event that brought upon some suspicion among the league of nations toward Hitler and his rising Nazi party. By Invading this area, he broke the Treaty of Versailles. Normally, an invasion like this could cause war, but the League wanted to do their best to keep the peace and stay away from another war like WW1, so they kept quiet and did not say much. Other than condemning Hitler for this action and warning him about any further actions, there was no punishment or big reaction.

Significance- This event sparked suspicion among the league, and they started to watch him and warn him not to move further with anything.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor is significant for many reasons, as it was a big event. The biggest reason though is that the bombing of Peal Harbor is what brought the United States to enter the war. On December 7th, 1941, Japanese aircraft flew to Hawaii. Out of these carriers, more than 300 bombers and fighter planes launched an attack on Pearl Harbor. Within the span of two hours, the Japanese either damaged, or destroyed American warships as well as around 300 military aircraft. There were more than 2400 Americans killed, and 1,200 Americans wounded. in the attack. Although the attack was huge, Japan failed to sink any of the American aircraft carriers, since they were out at sea during the attack.

Significance- This event brought the US to enter the war

The key players in this event were the Japanese and Americans.

Quote- "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

-George Santayana

The bomb on Hiroshima, Japan was dropped on August 6th, 1954. The bomb was dropped out of an American B-29, named "Enola Gay". The decision to drop this bomb, and the one of Nagasaki was a tough one, because President Truman had to decide between dropping the atomic bomb, or an invasion. After consideration, he realized that an invasion would only increase the number of casualties and would cause more problems, as well as push the end of the war farther away.

Significance- This event as well as the bomb on Nagasaki brought an end to the war.

The Key players in this event were those who were developers of this bomb and its project, (The Manhattan Project), and the United States.

"Japan learned from the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that the tragedy wrought by nuclear weapons must never be repeated and that humanity and nuclear weapons cannot coexist." - unknown

Japan Seizes Manchuria

Japanese soldiers disguised themselves as Chinese soldiers and blew up a small section of the Manchurian railway. The Japanese already owned this land but wanted to blame the incident on the Chinese. They did this so that they would be able to justify their taking. of all of Manchuria in a series of rapid military advances. After the incident, Manchuria offered Japan as many resources as they would need. Because of this, Japan and their army became committed to an expansionist policy, a policy in which they would enlarge the Japanese Empire. Eventually worldwide protests began against the Japanese seizure of Manchuria, and it eventually led to the League of Nations sending investigators. When the League of Nations reported an issue and condemned Japan for what it was doing, Japan withdrew from the League.

Significance- This was included in Japan's rise in power as they started to fight back.

The Key players in this event were the Japanese, Manchurian government, the League of Nations, and the Chinese.

a quote I found says, "The Japanese conquest of Manchuria and their full-scale invasion of China in 1937 led to clashes on the badly mapped Soviet-Manchurian frontier. Some of these were serious and involved large-scale tank battles which the Russians, under Marshal Zhukov, won." - unknown

Interesting fact: Japan sent in soldiers that were located in a nearby Korean colony, and they teamed up with the security there.

Death Camps

During the war, many were sent to Death Camps. it all started with the citizens having to be separated and having to have their things taken away. Then, they were led to ghettos where they were often starved or overworked, and if they weren't dead or close enough to death after being there for a while, they would be sent to death camps, and would be killed.

Significance- Events like these death camps happening are important because they remind us of how horrible Hitlers plans were, and help us to learn from what happened, and do our best to never let it happen again.

A quote I found says- "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of human freedoms- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances- to choose one's own way." - Viktor E Frankl

An interesting fact about death camps from WW2 is that Auschwitz was opened in 1940, and was the largest of the death camps, and even though most of the gas chambers are now destroyed, the camp is still there and standing.

The Key Players in events like this were the inhabitants that had to unfortunately die, and the Nazi Germans.

Ghettos were a place that people had to go to before the death camps. Ghettos were like city districts that would most of the time be closed off. In these places, the Germans often overworked and starved the people, and they would often die because of this. One of the most famous was the Warsaw Ghetto. This Ghetto was one so large that it had over 300,000 jews living there at once. The conditions were awful, and consisted of starvation, families being crowded together in housing that was nowhere near sanitary. Inhabitants struggled to even get some of the bare necessities such as food, sanitation, shelter and clothing.

Significance- this event was important because it was the beginning of something terrible.

Quote- "They said separate: children, men, women, and the older people. Me and my sister were separated with the young ones. I had my little sister in my arms, and one of the SS came over and picked up my little sister and gave her to my stepmother. He pushed me to the other side." - Bella Benozio Ouziel

Interesting fact: German occupation authorities established the first ghetto in Poland in October 1939.

The key players in the events like ghettos were Jews and other people Hitler did not like, and the Nazis/German occupation

Adolf Hitler is significant to WW2 for quite a few reasons, many that are already pretty obvious. Some of those reasons include:

the brainwashing of citizens into thinking that what he was doing would be helpful to Germany and the country, and the rebuilding of the economy.

The consistent killing of innocent people who were "evil" because they had a different religion, looked a certain way, or were disabled.

The consistent determination that Hitler and the Nazi's brought to the war.

Interesting fact: Hitler tried to become an artist at one point before he decided to run Germany instead.

Other information- Hitler slowly was getting defeated more and more as they were losing battles to the soviets and to the British, and when he realized that they had no more chance of winning at all, he killed himself so he wouldn't have to be punished by the Americans.
