Temporado Jeremiah Santiago
Group 4
1. What is the advantage and disadvantage of using message abandonment, topic avoidance, and fillers/hesitation devices?

Advantage: It refers to leaving the message unfinished due to lack of a structural or linguistic item.

Disadvantage: It can be argued that the disadvantage of using the psycholinguistic approach is that we can never know what is going on inside a learner in spontaneous situations.

2. How can communication strategies help you to avoid communication breakdown

Strategize the information according to its level of importance. Be direct and concise in your communication. Research suggests that while details are important, messages that are short and 'to-the-point' are comprehended more easily. Do not hesitate to ask questions and encourage others to do the same!

3. In what situations will you use foreignizing, code switching, and literal translation?

code-switching is mostly used within bilingual and multilingual communities, and there are many reasons to use this method, such as the need to fit in with a group, as a force of habit, or to convey thoughts and concepts that might be easier to explain in a specific language.

4. For you, should you use communication strategies even if there is no communication difficulty? Why?

Communicative strategies not only play an important role in communication but they also contribute to second language acquisition. Communicative strategies (CS) can help to keep the communication channel open, encourage hypothesis formation and automatization.

5. Why do you need to put yourself in the shoes of the people you are communicating with?

Trying to see where another person is coming from is often touted as a key to empathy. If we imagine ourselves in their shoes, the thinking goes, we'll be able to predict their feelings and their behavior, bridging the gap between self and other.

6. What is the importance of interpersonal skills in choosing an appropriate communication strategy?

Interpersonal skills are important for communicating and working with groups and individuals in your personal and professional life. People with strong interpersonal skills tend to build good relationships and can work well with others. They understand family, friends, coworkers and clients well.
