“Early Bird” communication satellite

On April 6, 1965, NASA launched the world’s first commercial communications satellite Intelsat I (a.k.a. Early Bird) into a geosynchronous orbit above earth.

The satellite was built for the Communications Satellite Corporation, by the Space and Communications Group of Hughes Aircraft Company and launched and tracked by NASA.
