         <description><![CDATA[<p>1975: Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - #1 for weeks, the video meant they didn't have to keep coming on ToTP week after week</p><p>- kicked the door open for music videos</p><p>1977: Bee Gees - Saturday Night Fever</p><p>1979: Buggles - producer called trevor horn</p><p>- video killed the radio star</p><p>1980: David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes - everything he did visually was under his control</p><p>- crazy casting choices woah!!</p><p>1981: MTV</p><p>Godley and Creme - went on to be producers for music videos after starting with their music career</p><p>1983: Michael Jackson: Thriller - John Landis </p><p>- MTV was all glam rock (like motley crue) so he wanted to get in - also he used the 'current' stars in his music/videos like motley crue + van halen cos good shit</p><p>- tried lots of different techniques like stop motion etc</p><p>- thriller had an unprecedented production value</p><p>- damn that choreography tho</p><p>~~~~~</p><p>sledgehammer - </p><p>stopmotion - aardman</p><p>first vfx - chromakey</p><p>~~~~~</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Codes and conventions</p><p>- artist is performing and/or there's a narrative</p><p>- cut to the beat</p><p>- lip synced well</p><p>- themes - to do with the song (or an interpretation of it)</p><p>- brand - ie you can 'feel' that it's a britney/metallica/slipknot video due to branding</p><p>~</p><p>- Lyrics - lip synced/mimed/typography</p><p>- Music - </p><p>- Genre -</p><p>- Camerawork - </p><p>- Editing - cuts to the beat</p><p>- Intertexuality - reference other text/other media/celebs/homage</p><p>- Narrative &amp; Performance&nbsp;</p><p>  ~ a balance between the two is good&nbsp;</p><p>  ~ some videos go for either one of the other</p><p>  ~ a good example of a balance between the two is Radiohead - Just (the subtitles are telling an entirely different story within the same universe                - cos they look down from the building)</p>]]></description>

Can be relevant or irrelevant to the song itself. There are cases where the video will be more popular than the song itself - and 'make' the song e.g. ?</p><p>Hybrid</p><p>   a mix of the two - e.g. the radiohead one </p><p>Abstract/Surreal</p><p>   doesn't have a narrative/performance/link to reality</p><p>Parody/Pastiche</p><p>   parody = taking the piss, pastiche = a homage kinda like the weezer one</p>]]></description>
