The Ottoman empire had a diverse climate and environment. The ottomans decided to expand their boarders into the core of the middle east just south of the Taurus Mountains that were arid drylands, this type of climate supported more of the irrigation agriculture and mobile pastoralism more than what permanent settlement, rainfed agriculture, or forest growth could support in this region.

The Ottoman Empire was a thriving economy that was primarily based off of agriculture of wheat and spices and controlled trade routes between Europe and Asia an between the Black sea and Mediterranean sea trade routes that they could tax any goods that were passing through. The capture of Constantinople didn't effect the economy too much as it wasn't a major spice trading hub. The Ottomans were very tolerant to different to different religions which is another factor that allowed for them to trade with other powers in the world.
