His breed is the <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nippon.com/en/views/b02341/">Akita-inu</a> which is Japan's most famous dog breed. </p><p>Source: <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-glances/jg00137/">https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-glances/jg00137/</a></p><p>Hachiko died because of suffering an infection of parasitic worms, he weakened, dying on March 8, aged 13 (He was 90 in human years). His funeral was held on March 12. Then his pelt (fur) was preserved and mounted, and is displayed at the National Science Museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo.</p>]]></description>

They found that Hachiko had been suffering from chronic heart worms (dirofilariasis),&nbsp;which had seriously damaged his heart and lungs. Eight is a lucky number in Japan.</p><p>Hachi and his new owner soon became best friends. Professor Ueno loved his dear dog above all and treated him as his son. The two of them were inseparable. There are currently five Hachiko statues and monuments in Tokyo. <br>There is a statue of him in Rhode Island in the USA, where the American version of the film was made.
