WADA’’s benchmark is that it does not impose any sanctions for the ingestion or use of some controlled drugs - including cannabis - if the act took place outside of competition periods. If an athlete tests positive for these drugs in-competition but can show these have no relation to their performance, they face a one- to three-month suspension.

Some people believe that a one-month suspension is insufficient and does not seem aligned to the zero tolerance of illicit drugs that SportSG subscribes to, thus affecting the reputation of national athletes. If they were not under probe, they may not have admitted to their transgression, emphasising the absence of integrity in national athletes as well.

They are not able to train at the OCBC Aquatic Centre or have access to any facilities, benefits or services accorded to high-performance athletes, added the Singapore Swimming Association, thus ensuring that athletes who breeched the law would not be able to enjoy similar facilities as those who uphold the law.

Character and virtues in sports and national prestige, unity and pride.

There is a perception that Malays are more better in football, which leads coaches to turn away Chinese players. This is due to a perception that Malays are more inclined to follow their passion than Chinese players. Additionally, when there is a majority race in a certain sport, its players will tend to communicate in their native language. This discourages players of other races in participating in the team. This is further amplified by some coaches speaking in their native languages, which makes it hard for the other races to understand; sometimes even causing them to pick up the language.
