We remember the betrayal of Judas, and the condemning by Ponticus Pilot. The story and passion of christ are displayed through the Stations of the Cross. Good Friday is important for the catholic faith because Jesus was brutally murdered and died to save us. His passion shows his love for us and his resurrection shows how God loves and protects us always.

Pilot found Jesus innocent, but the crowd wanted him crucified. He washed his hands, showing he wanted nothing more to do with it, and handed Jesus over to the people to be crucified. Jesus was tormented with a crown of thorns, beatings, and was forced to carry the wooden cross up to Calvary. He fell three times, and Simon of Cyrene was ordered to help Jesus. Once at calvary, he was stripped of his garments and crucified on the cross, between two thieves. Right before he died, Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" After he died, he was taken down off the cross, and laid in Marry's arms. He was then placed in Joseph's tomb.

There is no mass or celebration of the Eucharist on this holy day. If there is a celebration of the Eucharist on Good Friday, it must be from the Holy Thursday mass. The altars in the church are bare and the church bells are silent. Baptism, confession, and anointing of the sick are performed but under certain circumstances. Catholics also honor Good Friday with renacting the stations of the cross, Jesus' 14 station journey.
