She supported students in their learning and their extracurriculars.
Mr. Boeckers was my Spanish teacher in high school that I thoroughly enjoyed. He sent positive handwritten notes home in the mail to our families, which I thought was really special at the time. It means a lot to take the time to hand write something and send it home using your own means -Madison

I had many wonderful teachers throughout my elementary education, but one that sticks out to me most was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Bilotta. I was lucky enough to have her after not having a great Kindergarten experience and was blessed to get her for the next two years. She made learning engaging and took time to get to know each of her students interests. She also wore purple on the second day of school because she found out it was my favorite color which as a 1st grader, made me feel really special. - Makala

Mrs. Thompson -- she was my 3rd grade teacher and was exactly the teacher I needed at the time. I was an extremely shy kid and struggled immensely with "selective mutism," a crippling social anxiety disorder. Third grade was a pivotal year in my journey and I credit Mrs. Thompson with providing much of the support & care I needed that year to grow & overcome a lot of fears! She saw so much potential in me that I didn't see for myself and is a reason why I became a teacher! - Aubree

I had many great teachers in school! Mrs. Thompson was my 2nd grade teacher and she always had snacks for me when I was hungry. It's crazy to think that I still think about her because she was the only teacher who had snacks for students. Another teacher would be Ms. Vang, she really pushed me to explore different paths. I still keep in touch with her today. -Bonnie

Mrs. Strand was a physical education teacher and she was also my gymnastics coach. She taught me to never give up on myself and to always have hope. Mrs. Strand always showed up for me and always advocated for me. She made me feel welcomed, cared for, loved, and so on. She saw so much potential in me as a student and an athlete that she drove over to my house during school one day to have a conference with my family, specifically my dad, to make sure that I was not going to stop doing athletics during my high school career. From that day on, we were an unbreakable duo. We still manage to catch up today. - Mary

Mrs. Larrivy was my 4th grade teacher and was the first teacher to make me feel valued in a classroom. Every day she made me feel welcomed and cared for. She pushed me past my comfort zone because she had faith in me. She was the first teacher who made me feel smart enough to do well in school. I will forever be grateful for her. -Summer

Ms. Waterson was my 3rd grade teacher and really the only teacher that I remember from elementary school. I had moved a few times and had a lot of trauma as a child so my childhood is really a blur to me. I remember Ms. Waterson as caring and engaging and this is really the only year that I remember feeling joy in learning. ~Michaela

My High School Chemistry and Physics teacher was probably one of the most impactful teachers I had. We had just moved to a new district in 9th grade and I was starting in a new high school. He was also my volleyball coach and I became friends with his daughter. Over the four years he was a coach, mentor, and a safe place to land. I still see him from time to time. And even as a 43 year old, he is still Mr Anfenson to me. He expected excellence in the classroom but he also always KNEW each of his students personally. Getting a quiet "nice work" from him after a tough assignment or an athletic even was high praise. Kari

I had lots of great teachers! However, there is one that stands out the most to me in high school. I was in 9th grade and this teacher was my photography teacher. He was easy to talk to and ask questions regarding the content and made class fun! He genuinely cared about his students. As high school went on, I kept in contact with him by being his TA and taking more classes. When I graduated high school, I went back to visit some teachers as I took a different path then what I was expecting or planning. With that, he also knew I did not have much of a relationship since I was like 16 with my dad. Therefore, he became an important person to me and like a father figure as years continued on. Fast forward like 10 years, and my husband now- works with him! And I work with his wife! My kids know his family and we have stayed in contact! It is a very unique but cool situation! - Kelli Angell
