Orpheus meets Eurydice and they fall in love. At their wedding, Eurydice gets bitten by a serpent and goes into the underworld. Orpheus is heartbroken because he can’t sing their song together so he makes a deal with Hades. He says that if Orpheus goes into the underworld and takes Eurydice without looking back, he can keep her. He walks Eurydice out of the Underworld but looks back to make sure she is there but it was too soon. Eurydice disappeared which left Orpheus playing their song alone.

The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is about Eurydice getting bit by a snake which causes her to fall into the underworld. Orpheus was upset and wanted to retrieve his wife back. Orpheus was a musician and would play soothing and calming music to the monsters in the underworld to make them lead them to Eurydice. Once Orpheus found Eurydice, then Hades, sort of the leader of the underworld would let Orpheus take Eurydice away from the underworld back to the normal land only if he holds her hand and doesn't look back or else Eurydice will come back to the underworld and never be able to return to the normal world. Then Orpheus agreed but he accidentally broke the deal and never saw Eurydice again.

Back in that time not everyone would have heard of it or even found an interest in it. I know that to most people the story is intriguing.

The purpose of a legend is to create an emotion which should be demonstrated through the audience. to illustrate, the legend of king Arthur is predominantly about an in famous person who retrieves a sword from a stone. The reason for this legend relates to the story's context- (Britain after Rome time period). For the civilians to hear a legend which provides them with hope, changes their emotions. the Britain after Rome time period was an uncheerful time, and for the citizens to hear this story about hope gives them a change of emotion, it make them feel like they have a leader who can defend them in battle.

1. People would react in a subtle and surprised way because it would be very unlikely for a man to come out of nowhere and pull out a sword from a stone that others have never been able to take out. This would also lead people into a state of confusion due to how this happened and how unlikely the chances were.

2. This legend would have been extremely significant to the people of this time because of how a random person came over and picked up the sword from the stone during the middle of a war. It would not be important during this period/era in time due to how we don't have to worry about any leaders in war because it is already organised.

They might have also believed that the gods were always observing them and deciding their fate, like Eurydice did when she travelled to the underworld and died when Orpheus returned his gaze.

The predominant purpose of a myth is to provide a reason for certain circumstances . To exemplify, the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the moral or message in the story is relating to the idea of trust whilst the context (ancient Greece). The myth would have a great impact on the emotions of the audience. When the audience would have heard the story of Orpheus and Eurydice they would have felt fear and sadness. It's this control through fear. The civilians would constantly think that Hades is watching them and that would change their behaviour, it would change the way they dressed, behaved etc.
