Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the document. The main things the document was about were how a government should be run, the colonist get to state which taxes were unfair, and the colonist were free from Britain. Many people singed this document. It took the colonist many tries to make this document, but once they were finished they duplicated it and sent it off to King George III.
