Winter Break Literacy Promotion

At Manatee, we are recording our staff reading favorite books and then posting one each day for families to watch and talk about during the break. Also, we post a Winter Bingo reading log with various activities to do when reading such as "read to a pet" or "read a recipe" and many others. We will celebrate with those students when they visit our Media center in January.

Quest's Winter Reading Challenge

School-wide challenge is to read 300 minutes over winter break to earn brag tags. Top readers will be chosen by our wonderful media specialist for the opportunity to choose a book from the book fair at the end of January.

Our first grade is layering this challenge with meeting i-Ready Reading minutes of 40 or more each week we are on break!

Quest has had an amazing Literacy Week. Today we wrap up with school-wide DEAR time. We had almost 150 families attend our Family Literacy Night. Our cafe even got into the fun with a themed dessert and decorations.

This year we created literacy-based stations. The students received passports and explored ELA, Social Studies, Math, STEM, ate pizza and, of course, attended Scholastic Book Fair! The activities were designed for K-2 and 3-6. After they earned a stamp at each station, they turned it in for a Quest Explorer Brag Tag. We had about 150 families come out for the event. It was a hit!

Literacy Week at Ralph

Our students got to hear from engineers, architects, and firefighters about the role literacy plays in the their everyday jobs. They participated in projects, read alouds, and fun dress up days. We also had a lending library constructed by Viera High School's construction team and installed on Friday. We had a great week.
