comment : While the German soldiers may have taken some food, I do not think they took all the food away. I wonder whether all the German soldiers are cruel, and why would Kristi act so stubbornly when she saw how the two soldiers spoke harshly to Annemarie and Ellen.

Comment: Could Kristi's innocence be her protection? Is that innocence / ignorance to be envied? Wonder: I wonder why the soldiers would want to check Annemarie's bag even if she is a Kid/ child.

I also noticed that even though Annemarie and Ellen had done nothing wrong, the German soldiers still confronted Annmarie with riffles.

I noticed that before Annemarie could reach her house, Kristi was already there,telling their mother about the encounter with the German soldier,which was exactly what Annemarie and Ellen did not want.

I wonder why Kristi would tell their mother, when she knew that her mother would be anxious and worried.
