General Pershing was a very accomplished leader that set the tone for what leadership looks like as a CEO. He commanded an army that was larger than those in history when it needed to be commanded from a central location and not out in front like previous "Great Commanders". His lessons learned were vital for success in WWII as well as his mentoring many of the great generals to come after him.

His leadership style has many high points that can be used in today's business world. He had a great eye for talent and put people in places for the team to succeed. He didn't let friendships affect his decisions and he knew when to get out of the way and let his leaders command. He took constructive criticism and improved because of it. These are all traits of great leaders today. He also showed what happens when a person leads with fear and that it can stunt the growth of the team because superiors feel they have to micromanage and not train properly in fear of being replaced.
