         <description><![CDATA[<div>A formal <strong>argument</strong> state a position on a substantive topic and then support that position with reasons and evidence. <br><br><strong>Any of these ideas night presented as an argument;</strong><br>*You mean your parents to let you try out for a co-ed ice hockey team.<br>* The state want to pass a stricter hlmet law for skateboarders, rollerbladers, adn bike riders.<br>* A friend wants you to volunteeer with her at an animal shelter.<br><br><br><strong>A Strong Argument</strong><br>* show an understanding of the issue<br>* includes a precise claim that state<br>* provide logical reasons to supports the writer's claim.<br>* supports reasons with suffivent relvent evidence.<br>* organizes reasons and evidence logically<br>* fairly and respectfuly argues against opposing point of view<br>* clearly shows the relationships between idea<br>* has a formal style and aconfident tone<br>* concludes with a restatement of the claim.<br>A <strong>claim</strong> is a writer's positons on a problem or issue.<br><br><strong>Why Make a Claim</strong><br>*to respond to a statement agree or disagree.<br>*to convince someone of your position.<br>*to persuade someone of something.<br><br>Claim should make only one main point.<br>This claim is direct and to the point. <br><br><strong>Opposing claim</strong> is two different side. <br><strong>Counterclaim </strong>is something that happen in that claim.<br><br><strong>Reason and Evidence<br><br></strong>Because i said so..... <br>Your parent make you doing something w/o a reasons.<br><br>&nbsp;<strong>Suppport </strong>is material that is used to prove a claim.<br>&nbsp;Claim should have two reason and two evidence for each reason.<br>A <strong>reason </strong>is a statment that explains to readers why they should believe your claim.<br><br><strong>Facts</strong> are statements that can be proven. <br><strong>Example</strong> show a particular case that represents the idea in question.<br><strong>Statistic</strong> are facts stated in numbers.<br><strong>Quotations </strong>are exat word-for-word statements form others. Quotations from esperts on the topic provide strong reliable evidence.<br><strong>Anecdotes</strong> are brief stories or accounts of events that prove a point about the topic<br><br>A <strong>coherent</strong> argument hangs together.<br>Transitional words and phrases link ideas, sentencess, and paragraph.<br>Order important- Least important to most important.<br>Most familiar to least familiar.<br>Most likely to be accepted to least likely.<br><br><strong>Concluding Your Argument<br></strong>In a<strong> strong conclusion </strong>to an argument, to make you reader to believe you thoust.<strong><br></strong>&nbsp;Is a logical follow-up to the main ideas presented in the body of the agrument.<br>Restates the claim and its significance.<br>When approkpriate, includes a call to action (asking readers to believe in something or to something)<br>If necessary, ties uo any loose end.<br>May point out a new, interesing idea closely related to the claim htat leave reader with something to think about.<br><br><br><br>&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
