The Cold War intensified in the late 1940's and early 1950's where people were blamed and accused for being communist. What I mean by this is that people were being accused and reported that they may be communist. When people were reported many of them actually went to jail after being investigated, even if they did not believe in communism. Some quotes in the text called "Red Scare" that support this are "Federal employees were analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government, and the House Un-American Activities Committee, as well as U.S. Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, investigated allegations of subversive elements in the government and the Hollywood film industry" and "The climate of fear and repression linked to the Red Scare finally began to ease by the late 1950s.".Another thing that occurred during the Red Scare was a "war" between the communist and the capitalist which is why the United States were so serious if somebody had a trace of communism, because they were in war with the communist. This connects to Lesson 8 Mission 1 because that talks about what the United States did to impact other countries and make them want to become capitalist.

Was this an open conflict or crisis: Why and explain.

I think this was a crisis which is a time of intense difficulty, trouble, or danger because they weren't fighting a war or a battle,it was just what I like to call 'a dark time' because it is an event that was not ethical. What I mean by this is that the Red Scare was a period of time which was a crisis because it was not a battle or a war. A quote that supports that this was just a mistake period of time from the passage "Red Scare" is "The Red Scare led to a range of actions that had a profound and enduring effect on U.S. government and society. Federal employees were analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government".This quote shows that it was a period of time where rather than fighting, the government just did further investigation on those who seemed communist. To further prove that the Red Scare was a crisis rather than an open conflict is that an example of an open conflict is The Battle of Gettysburg because that is a war where as the Red Scare was not. This connects to a certain cases on the news because some people went to jail and were punished even if they weren't 100% sure it was them.Just like if someone was accused of being communist and even if it wasn't proven they got punished during the Red Scare.

Summarize the political ideas that have shaped this conflict.

The political ideas that shaped this conflict were capitalist and communist. What I mean by this is that while the Red Scare was occuring the two political ideas that shaped this were communist and capitalist. But because the U.S were Capatalist they were entirely against communism and its ideas. To support this I found a quote from a text called "Red Scare" that said "On March 21, 1947, President Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) issued Executive Order 9835, also known as the Loyalty Order, which mandated that all federal employees be analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government.".This quote relates because the president issued an executive order just to ensure that people are not going against the government and that they are being loyal to the Capitalism. To really elaborate and show that the two political ideas that shaped this conflict were capitalist and communist is that they were two opposing ideas and so when the two superpowers(the U.S and Soviet) believed different ideas dissagreements started and the cold war began. This connects to the human right number 19 the right to expression because the people in the Red Scare were not allowed to express their feelings toward the economic tragedy because if it was against their country it was illegal.

One human right that was denied during this period of time was right number 19 which is the right to expression. What I mean by this is that the right to expression was denied during this because they were not able to go unpunished and believe or express their feelings about the opposing polital idea. This is shown in the reading "Red Scare" in this quote "Federal employees were analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government, ".Another way to show that this human right connects is by thinking about how worried and scared the president was to see if people were communist since the president wanted all of the U.S citizens to agree with his ideas. This connects to lesson 8 mission 0 the cold war because in a section of the paper called conflict on many fronts talks about how the UNited States were helping other countries which made communists mad because they did not want other countries to become communist just like the president didn't want his citizens becoming communist.
