Many times as a teacher, when i face situations where i have never faced before, I will need to improvise on the spot. When faced with the same situation again, i will then rely on how i responses to that particular situation in the past and react in the same way. It's not much but doing consistently will have a compounding effect. However, I do like exploring alternatives like podcasts as mentioned by Hazel Brinkworth in the article. In addition to that, I am able to listen while on the go (just plug in my earpiece and i'm good to go). A mind, once stretched, will never go back to its original dimensions.

Like our students, we need to have suitable expectations for ourselves and time to build up our stamina for reading.

But I do like the idea in the article, of modelling our learning behaviours to students. It may be worthwhile to set aside time during the day where students and teachers do some silent reading. The teacher models the behaviour we want for reading and students get to see their teachers being a “student”. Maybe it will be nice to try it in my class one day.

I usually read more during school term breaks.  That allows me more time to indulge in reading without being interrupted. To be honest with the busy term, i have not found time to dive into some professional reading. But currently finding Chika has been my bed time read, where its about how as an adult we are able to learn lessons of life from a young child.

Each teacher has different experiences, and at times, we may not always have a common basis to make decisions if we use our experiences which differ. When things are first implemented there are bound to be teething issues and student challenges on change and if we look only at our experience we will think it is not good. However with reading there is evidence to support and keep us going. I leavrnt that professional reading is in many forms, not just in physical books but even on blogposts written by reputable teachers or audiobooks.
