Human Rights should be prioritized because we are humans before becoming part of a culture. After all, some countries and societies have practices that are often beyond abnormal and can be considered immoral. Thus, entitlement to self is still a higher priority. Therefore, we are entitled to these rights and should freely enjoy them. However, if I look at this from another perspective, I wholeheartedly agree that both Human Rights and Cultural Rights should be equal. However, there should also be a boundary limit to where Cultural Rights can violate our Human Rights.

No, because both cultural and human rights should be equally prioritized. It also really depends on what cultural practices a certain group of people do that might be inhumane for other groups. As long as they are humane and respectful, the cultural rights can be equally prioritized as the human rights.

Each country has its own sets of culture and norms. Rather than the popular culture and what norms and tradition is majorly seen in a country, cultural rights talks and focuses on protecting and preserving the culture of the people of minorities. These were commonly the Indigenous people of the country who experienced neglect, harassment, and discrimination amongst the people and the government. For example, here in the Philippines, Indigenous people are being neglected by the government and due to it, they lack access to social services like quality education and healthcare aids.

With that said, In my own perspective, we should not dichotomize the two ideas of cultural and human rights as one idea is a part of a much more broader concept. Prioritizing cultural rights and protecting cultural rights is also giving importance to human rights.

NISHIKAWA - 1HST

My answer would be no; it's not more essential to prioritize cultural rights over human rights. Both are essential components of a fair and inclusive society, and finding a balanced approach that respects both sets of rights is key to promoting a harmonious and rights-respecting world. Balancing cultural rights and human rights requires a nuanced approach. Cultural rights are crucial for preserving diversity and identity, but human rights like dignity and equality are fundamental and should be protected universally. Striking a balance means respecting cultural diversity while ensuring that human rights are upheld for all individuals, even when cultural practices conflict with these rights.

Both are equally important as human rights are necessary for the protection of a society and its people. However, cultural rights merit the same importance as culture is what makes us human.
