         <description><![CDATA[<div>Write an essay that uses reflections and observations to identify and critically reflect upon bias and stereotypes through a social justice lens.<br><br></div><div>Describe and evaluate any relevant policies, practices and legislation that apply to your chosen example.<br><br></div><div>Begin by identifying an example of historical bias or stereotyping related to primary education. This might be:<br><br>1.<strong> a photograph,</strong> or series of photos<br><br>2.<strong> a video example</strong><br><br>3. <strong>an example from your own past</strong><br><br>4. <strong>an incident from your placement. </strong></div><div><strong><br>Note</strong>: If you are using such an example, make sure you follow the correct ethical guidelines. Be anonymous, non-judgemental and free from bias, discrimination and prejudice.<br><br></div><div>If you are having trouble finding an appropriate example, communicate with your eLA.<br><br></div><div>Within your essay, you must do the following:<br>1. <strong>Define</strong> the key terms that underpin the unit: diversity, equity and inclusion.<br><br>2. <strong>Describe</strong> your chosen example and identify the historical bias or stereotype demonstrated.<br><br>3. <strong>Critically reflect</strong> on your chosen example through a social justice lens.</div><div><br>Consider questions such as the following:<br><br></div><ul><li>How does this example align with your understanding of the key terms: diversity, equity and inclusion?</li><li>What social, cultural or historical factors may have been an influence in your example?</li><li>How might theories of social justice apply to your example?</li><li>What are the implications for the affected groups or individuals?</li><li>What are the implications for educators?</li></ul><div><br></div><div>4. <strong>Describe</strong> and <strong>evaluate</strong> any relevant <strong>policies, practices and legislation</strong> that apply to your chosen example.</div><div><br>Make sure you consider:<br><br></div><ul><li>the key elements of the policy, practice or legislation</li><li>the strengths and limitations of the policy, practice or legislation</li><li>how well the policy, practice or legislation addresses your chosen example</li><li>what issues might be raised through application of the policy, practice or legislation.</li></ul><div><strong><br></strong><br><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
