My pragmatism idea is that the value of an idea is dependent upon its usefulness in the practical world rather than its absolute truth.

I was the first to teach a psychology course in the U.S. and is often referred to as the father of American psychology, i’m an American philosopher and psychologist, a leader of the philosophical movement of Pragmatism and of the psychological movement of functionalism. After medical school, I focused on the human psyche, writing a masterwork on the subject, entitled The Principles of Psychology. I later became famous the literary piece The Will to Believe and Other Essays in Popular Philosophy, which was published in 1897.

I also developed the philosophical perspective known as radical epiricism, which a philosophical doctrine. It asserts that experience includes both particulars and relations between those particulars, and that therefore both deserve a place in our explanations. In concrete terms: any philosophical worldview is flawed if it stops at the physical level and fails to explain how meaning, values and intentionality can arise from that.

This is the theory that consciousness is considered environmental, “Consciousness helps people adapt to their environment.” For example, if you are from a small town and you travel to a city you are not familiar with, you will most likely lock your car doors and pays special attention to your surroundings. Your consciousness is on high alert as you adapt to your surroundings. If you come from a big city with a high crime rate to a small town, you most likely will have a difficult time adjusting to people who will go out of their way to talk to you or offer help. Functionalism is what drives your senses in adjusting to a confusing environment.
