What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

This week, I'm concentrating on completing all of the formal and documented aspects of the practicum. For example, I needed to meet with the principal to show him the JPN confirmation letter and introduce myself. I also needed to meet with the assigned mentor in order to hand over the evaluation forms and explain how many times he needed to evaluate me.

Because the school representative told me to treat the first three days as orientation days, I did not have any relief classes. I get many relief classes for the next two days and got the chance to meet and greet the students for the first time. I also managed to get the teaching timetable for next week, which I need to teach three classes. Two classes from form 3 and another class from form one.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

This week, my weakness was that I did not plan any activities for the first day of relief class, which made the students bored. However, after that day, I decided to teach the students basic English grammar during the relief class. Surprisingly, the students make significant contributions in class.

Another flaw is that I speak Malay while teaching English subjects because I am concerned that the students will not understand what I am saying because they live in rural areas. However, my mentor advised me on that part and repeatedly remind me to speak in English and not simply speak in Malay.

What areas could I improve on? What did I find a challenge?

The area that I could improve on is how I prepare lessons to ensure both the real class and relief classes stay fun and interesting without any discrimination. This is because relief classes somehow showed how my skills in controlling students.

I also believe I should reduce the use of my native language in class and speak in English at a slower pace instead to ensure all students understand what am I saying.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

This week, I concentrated on delivering the lesson and teaching three classes for the first time. Last week, my mentor advised me to prepare fewer non-textbook lesson plans and use as much textbook material as possible. It is quite disappointing because I prefer to prepare my lessons using non-textbook lessons. This is because, in my opinion, the method of teaching and learning will be broad, and it is challenging to modify a textbook-based lesson. However, by the end of the day, listening to my mentor and school is essential.

This week I was also asked to help the teachers prepare an event or program for the principal since he will be transferring to a new school. The program entitled "Majlis Jasa Bakti Setinggi Budi 2022" and was held on Friday. I was placed under two "AJKs", arranging presents and preparing the program book with other teachers. It was a fun and enjoyable experience.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

My strengths this week are I managed to control each class I got, and I managed to ask students to complete their work on time. Even though the class is more teacher-centered and quite dull, the students give good cooperation.

My weakness for this week is I did not include many activities which are students centered, which makes students quickly lose focus, especially when there are activities students need complete by themselves.

What areas could I improve on? What did I find a challenge?

One area where I could improve is the activity I do in the classroom. Even if I'm utilizing a textbook-based lesson, I should include more student-centered games and activities to make my class more fun and keep students' attention until the end of the lesson.

One of the difficulties I encountered this week was that students' daily notes were not organized, they did not have a notebook, and they needed to write on paper because my mentor handed their book to the GKMP for marking purposes.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

Since I met all of my students last week, the areas that I focused on this week were to enhance my teaching abilities compared to the previous week by concentrating more on the teaching materials that I use depending on the learning proficiency of all students. However, due to the Hari Raya Aidiladha school break and Sukan Tara at school, I have only had one opportunity to teach this week, which disappoints me.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

One of my strengths this week was, that I managed to prepare a fun game for my students (1 Al- Khawarizmi) which is card game of irregular verbs. They need to play the game just like they play UNO cards, one who finished the card first will be the winner. The objective of this game is to make sure students remember the irregular verbs which in English there are more than 250 irregular verbs that students need to remember. This scene probably shows that I have tried my best to make sure my classroom was interesting as possible compared to last week when the lesson was so dull.

Another strength I discovered this week was that I was able to do work that was unrelated to my field. For example, at the 'Sukan Tara,' the instructors assigned me to be one of the timekeepers for a running race (100 and 200 meters) amongst students, and I did an excellent job with the help of other teachers.

What areas could I improve on? What did I find a challenge?

One of the areas in which I may improve this week is assessing my students' competency and planning an activity that meets their requirements precisely. During my three weeks as a practicum teacher, I have discovered that I do not have enough time to squander, particularly when it comes to lesson preparation. This has been the most difficult aspect of my experience.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

This week, I focused on teaching my form 1 students reading skills regarding mobile phones. In every lesson, I instructed them on how to use mind maps to comprehend the specific topics they were learning. I am among the first students to be introduced to mind maps, and I think it did assist students in better comprehending whatever subject they study. It was a privilege to teach them on a topic so relevant to their daily life: mobile phones and the class went really well. For the next lesson in the same week, I covered the simple past tense to ensure that they had not forgotten what they had studied the previous week.

In the meanwhile, I must teach relative clauses to form three students based on their textbook, which fills me with dread. I also invited students to complete online relative clause quizzes to grab their attention. Unexpectedly, they performed quite well in the quiz, and no group received less than nine points, which made me extremely happy.

I was also invited to help the school in preparing food and other things for a program named "Program Rewang Keluarga Smek-g." It was an amazing experience.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

One of my strengths this week was that I was able to draw students' attention in a variety of ways, which required a lot of work since the ability of students in one class varies.

My shortcoming is that I couldn't catch students' attention with only one command, and I had to repeat it twice for them to listen to me since they speak too much. To ensure that my session ran as well as possible, I think I need to search for some tips on how to get students to behave on Google.

What areas could I improve on? What did I find a challenge?

As I previously said, I need to improve how I manage my classroom to ensure that all of my students behave throughout the session and that my lesson is finished in time. Aside from that, I need to plan more relief lesson plans to guarantee students do not make noises throughout the class that disturbs other classes. Since I also got so many relief classes.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

This week, one of the goals I have set for myself is to finish the daily lesson that I have prepared. Saddening, I was unable to complete it in time for the first class of form one and had to drag it to the following class. This week I still have to repeatedly remind and tell them to pay attention to what I am saying. I hope that in the future it will be smoother for me and that I will find out how to manage the students.

I was able to capture the interest of the students in form three during the pre-lesson by engaging them in enjoyable activities. This week, I was able to teach all form three classes. But just for one day. Each student performed well in class, but due to time constraints, each lesson had to be postponed to the next session.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

I was also able to help and join the teachers in preparing for the sports days, notably the "Kawad Kaki,". Teachers were given just two days to prepare. But we all did an excellent job.

I was also given responsibility for "Lontar Peluru," one of the sports during the sports day. I had to keep an eye on the kids to ensure they didn't breach the regulations, and I also had to tally the marks, which was interesting work.

During the rehearsal of sports day, I must also assist the students who play netball in their training. I like netball, so guiding the students is simple and fun.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

Lesson

This week, I worked on the simple past tense, especially regular and irregular verbs, for form one al- Khawarizmi kids. I taught them to distinguish between regular and irregular verbs, to change root verbs into the simple past tense, and to construct basic negative phrases.

According to my observations, all students quickly grasp and memorize the formula for transforming regular verbs into the past tense. However, memorizing irregular verbs takes a long time. This might be because they are unfamiliar with the verbs. It took me a week to finish one lesson.

Meanwhile. three al- Biruni students, arrived late in class. Only the pre-lesson part of the lesson has been completed. Students seemed to understand the concept since they could answer when I posed easy questions about relative clauses at random throughout the lesson. I instructed students to complete the exercises on page 47 in their textbook alone at home and discuss them in the next session, which is next week.

Three al-Ghazali students also entered the classroom late this week until I had to drag the lesson. Students managed to do the crossword puzzle and game regarding positive and negative feelings smoothly. However, they seemed to face trouble during the listening activity. It may happen because the text was read by non-native speakers with a distinctive accent for students.

In this week's lesson, I taught twelve new verbs + prepositions and adjective + prepositions to students three al-Khwarizmi. I also showed them how to use the proper prepositions following verbs and adjectives. They seemed to comprehend the information fast, but I had to drag the lesson until the next session due to time limits.

Non-lesson

Apart from teaching, I am also a police cadet teacher. I was instructed to supervise and teach students to march for the '2022 SMK KG GELAM Co-Curriculum Monthly Assembly'. It was an exciting and touching experience. I have also participated in a bowling competition organized by the staff club of SMK KG GELAM, which was fun and exciting.

How did it go?

Lesson

I have already prepared the lesson for form 1 al - Khawarizmi students. However, they said they had already learned the topic with my mentor. I tried to know the student's understanding of the text by asking simple questions.

However, most of them still do not understand the text. I decided to reread the text to students and explain each point to make sure they understood what the text was about.

Then I go through the questions, but most students do not even understand the questions, which makes me wonder how the students can answer all questions correctly.

I explain each question and answer to ensure the students know what they have learned. Finally, I recap the lesson by conducting a spelling bee related to the fringe festival. Most of the students managed to spell the words correctly.

For the next class, form 1 al- Khawarizmi students did all the activities smoothly with guidance, especially when they needed to construct questions using was or were. The teacher was so happy that day. At the end of the lesson, the teacher mentioned that they would continue to learn how to use was/were in short answers and could and couldn't in sentences.

Three al-Biruni students did well in learning non-defining and defining relative clauses. Most of the students also did the activity related to relative pronouns correctly—the lesson managed to be completed that day.

For the first session with three al-Ghazali students this week, I taught them to classify eight new phrasal verbs related to the special relationship and justify the correct phrasal verbs in sentences. Students managed to do all the activities smoothly.

Then, for the next session, I took the class time for three al-Ghazali and al-Khawarizmi to prepare the students for the upcoming exam by discussing suitable discourse markers for use in writing. I also explain the number of papers and the exam duration.

Non-lesson

Apart from teaching, On Friday that week, I was assigned to be one of the committee members for the 'Perkampungan SPM Fasa 1' program. It was an exciting experience, and I was also able to gain new knowledge in the technique of teaching students to answer exam questions, especially for English subjects.

How did it go?

Lesson

Form 1 al-Khawarizmi students are still covering the same topic in the eighth week. They learnt how to employ 'was/were/could/couldn't' in sentences. Students in Form 1 demonstrated a pleasant attitude and an interest in this week's sessions. They are very active in class and can confidently complete all activities. The main issue is that some students are too lazy to finish their homework.

This week, form 3 al-Ghazali students concentrate on writing abilities. They seem to be enthusiastic about improving their writing skills. I showed them ways to compose a mystery story based on their experience. I also showed them how to analyze my sample mystery story using critical points from their textbooks on story organization and structure. I encouraged them to think outside the box and play around with different pens to pique their interest in learning. As a consequence, they have shown an upbeat attitude this week.

This week, three al-Biruni students participated in listening activities. They did a good job of identifying negative and positive emotions. The majority of the students also performed well in the listening task. However, I still needed to repeat the audio more than two times to make sure they complete all of the activities.

As I mentioned before, I taught twelve new verbs + prepositions and adjective + prepositions to students three al-Khwarizmi. I also showed them how to use the proper prepositions following verbs and adjectives. They finally finished the topic this week. Students behaved so well and they managed to do all the activities smoothly that day.

Non-lesson

Apart from activities in class this week, I was also involved in the installation and hanging of flags throughout the school area with other practical teachers.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

This week was my first time monitoring examination students. Despite having done a few months of practicum in a school in Kuala Lumpur throughout my diploma studies, I did not have the chance to look after students during exams.

I gained a lot of new information. For example, I learned to review the class timetable as well as the exam timetable ahead of time. No teacher will remind you of the examination time and the paper you must take; each teacher must be responsible.

Every morning before school, I check the class time and relief and write it down on a piece of paper to prevent confusion with the exam schedule. Then, early in the morning, I will get the question paper which I must distribute to the students that day. I also asked the seniors about the procedures and tips I should take before and after the exam to prevent mistakes.

In addition, I also participate in a recycling program called "Kasi Kitau Semula SMeK-G Family Staff Club 2022." I must gather recyclable goods from the students and teachers in Academic Block 2's classes. I have identified all of the classes in the academic block and contacted each class teacher to inform the students about this program. So far, I've gathered various stuff such as paper, plastic, and bottles. It was a fantastic experience.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

This week, my strength is my systematic mindset about accomplishing something I've never done before. I'm also not afraid to question seniors about stuff I don't understand. It demonstrates that I am not lazy to ask and work.

My weakness this week is that I am a bit less strict as an exam proctor, and there are students, primarily upper secondary boys, who dare to talk during the examination. I once lost tolerance for students who were too loud during exams, so I scolded them.

What areas could I improve on? I also have to help in the distribution of flags to teachers for the Independence Day event.

This week, I was also assigned in preparing a paper for one of the school's projects, "SMEKG Student Toilet Fun 2022." I learned a lot while preparing the paper, such as asking a lot of questions to seniors and understanding the proper format for the paper.

As for the teaching part, I was only able to teach one class, but I was very disappointed when I requested that students show their work, which is a story called "A True Mystery."

It was discovered that the students had not completed their assignment, which greatly disappointed me because I had given them ample time to complete it. I then decided to let the students finish the story in class and guide them.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

I continue teaching writing skills to Form 3 students this week. I taught them how to describe physics and the attitudes of characters in a story. I've also taught them how to describe the setting and situation correctly. The majority of the students have a good attitude and the ability to describe the people, settings, and situations in a story.

This week, I did not manage to teach all classes since some students were engaged in rehearsals for co-curricular day. Thursday is a co-curricular day, while Friday is a school holiday. I only got to teach one of three form three classes.

Meanwhile, form 1 students performed admirably this week, successfully distinguishing between comparative and superlative adjectives. They can even turn basic adjectives into comparative and superlative adjectives confidently.

What were my strengths and weaknesses this week? Did I do well?

This week, I managed to teach students how to change simple adjectives into comparative or superlative adjectives. The students appeared to enjoy the sentence-building activities I assigned in class which included comparative and superlative adjectives.

Besides that, by demonstrating how to utilize suitable expressions in students' stories, I was also able to encourage students to enhance their writing.

Apart from teaching, I also managed to help teachers prepare for the co-curricular day. For example, I helped to make a banner for the English club booth, I helped to sell drinks to students, and I was also the food organizer for the co-curricular day.

What areas could I improve on? What did I find a challenge?

Not all students manage to complete all the tasks, some of them tend to copy the samples given and tend to get lazy about thinking of their own ideas. Students also seem to easily get distracted by other things during the session, which is quite frustrating.

I believe that in order for the students to behave better in class, I need to be stricter with them.

How did it go?

Lesson

Form 1 al-Khawarizmi students are covering the new topic in the thirteenth week. They learnt about rules for countable and uncountable nouns. Students in Form 1 demonstrated a pleasant attitude and an interest in this week's sessions. They are very active in class and can confidently complete all activities. The main issue is that some students are too lazy to finish their homework.

This week, form 3 al-Ghazali students concentrate on recalling the topic that they had been learning for months, which is Unit 4, Special Relationships. I encouraged them to do a vocabulary review related to special relationships. As a consequence, they have shown an upbeat attitude this week.

This week, three al-Biruni students participated in writing activity.

Three al-Khwarizmi students did well in learning non-defining and defining relative clauses. Most of the students also did the activity related to relative pronouns correctly—the lesson managed to be completed that day.

Non-lesson

Apart from activities in class this week, my practicum friends and I have already begun painting the toilet wall. We learned a lot while working on this project, such as how to be cooperative, tolerant, and prompt.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

Lesson

This week, I taught grammar a/an some and any, for form one al- Khawarizmi kids. I taught them to answer questions correctly by using grammar a/an, some and any.

According to my observations, all students quickly grasp and memorize the rules for articles a and an. However, memorizing the rules to use some and any takes a long time. This might be because they are unfamiliar with the grammar rules.

Meanwhile. three al- Biruni students, only half of the lesson-development part has been completed. Students seemed to understand the concept of organizing a story since they could answer when I posed easy questions at random throughout the lesson. I instructed students to complete the exercises on page 52 in their textbook at home and discuss them in the next session, which is next week.

Three al-Ghazali students managed to do all the activities smoothly with the guidance of the teacher in reviewing the vocabulary in unit 4 special relationships.

In this week's lesson, I taught defining and non-defining relative clauses to students three al-Khwarizmi. I also showed them how to use and apply six relative pronouns correctly. They seemed to comprehend the information fast, but I had to drag the lesson until the next session due to time limits.

Non-lesson

This week, SMK Kampung GELAM celebrated the closing of Independence Month. It was a very fun experience because the teachers and students were told to wear national clothes on the day. Everyone was so beautiful and handsome that day. It was my first experience celebrating the end of Independence Month as a teacher in school.

What area did I focus on this week? How did it go?

I can only teach two periods of each class this week. This is due to my mentor's request.

I taught a new topic to three al-ghazali students; unit 5, a place to call home. I began the lesson by asking the students to list the different types of houses in the world. Due to time constraints, students were only able to complete half of the activities during the week.

I was unable to teach three al-Biruni students this week.

Three al-khawarizmi students are still studying the same topic, relative clauses. This time, however, they must complete interesting activities in their textbook using relative pronouns. Some students are still unsure how to determine the correct relative pronoun in a sentence, but the majority of students can do so correctly and confidently.

Besides the classroom activities, the school students' bathroom painting project was completed successfully this week. We, practical teachers, are really satisfied and delighted with our job.

What areas could I improve on? I must also provide activities that are more interesting and simple to understand so that students can have more fun while learning. I should also not rely solely on textbooks and can make use of other resources.
