1812 Constitution of Cádiz

In 1812 the Spanish government in Cádiz approved a new constitution.
The power of the monarchy was reduced.
Ordinary people could vote in elections, but only men.
Government was separated into the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Freedom of the press was established.
The Spanish Inquisition was abolished.
Spain finally defeater the French in 1814 and as a result,Fernando VII returned to power.

The French Revolution was a period of time in France when the people overthrew the monarchy and took control of the government. When did it take place? The French Revolution lasted 10 years from 1789 to 1799.
The France of 1799 was totally different from that of 1789. In just a decade, the Revolution had created an entirely new state. From an absolutist monarchy there had been a republic. There were no longer subjects, but citizens. Society, formerly led by aristocracy and clergy, now had its main engine in the bourgeoisie

The monarchy was restored in 1874, so the period after that is known as the Restoration.
In 1874 the Restoration began. Alfonso XII, Isabel ll´s son, returned to Spain to become the new king. It began on 29 December of 1874 and finished the 14 of April 1931.
