Overall I think that it is a good list mainly because I have not researched other presidents.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President, is one of the most popular U.S. presidents. He led the country during the Civil War, ended slavery with the Emancipation Proclamation, and preserved the Union. His famous speeches, like the Gettysburg Address, inspired many, but the Civil War caused many deaths. Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 but is remembered as a strong leader who saved the nation.

James Buchanan, the 15th President, is often considered one of the worst. He failed to stop Southern states from leaving the Union, which led to the Civil War. Buchanan supported the Dred Scott decision, denying rights to African Americans and worsening slavery tensions. His weak leadership and inability to solve the crisis made him very unpopular, and many blame him for not preventing the Civil War.

The pros about George Washington is that he did a lot of good things to make America the great. He did not abuse his power and he arranged to free those slaves belonging to him. The cons was he made a rush decisions.

Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president in the United States. He is a member of democratic and he experienced Civil War. The pros of Woodrow Wilson changed the nation's economic policies and he was a leader during World War 1. The cons about him is he raised income taxes.

My overall thoughts on the rankings is that I was surprised to see Eisenhower on the top 5 list. I was expecting Thomas Jefferson or Teddy Roosevelt. Similar to the top 5, on the bottom 5 I was expecting to see Andrew Johnson or Herbert Hoover. Overall I have no problems with the list.

George Washington:

Washington had to grow up very quickly, his father died when he was 11 and as a result Washington became the man of the house and plantation. He was mostly self educated. Washington had a long ,military career with many successes and failures, however he rose to prominence as commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

Washington was elected as first president of the United States. He set many standards and traditions for the office of the president. For example he establish the presidential cabinet, basically assistants to the president. Washington was known for discussing any decisions with his cabinet. What was unique about Washington was he surrounded himself with political rivals with many different points of view. Lastly, Washington was a large slave owner throughout his life and even during his time in the White House he used slave labor as workers. Washington is best know for his time as a military leader and the "Father of the United States" many practices he did while in office have become the tradition of the president.

James Buchanan:

He was the president before Abe Lincoln. He is most known for his handling of the growing problem of slavery in the new territories as the US expanded west. He was the only president to never be married. He served in various levels of our government before becoming president. Some major events of his presidency included the Dred Scott decision in which the Supreme Court ruled that African Americans did not have legal citizenship, therefore slavery could extend into free territory. Also, the courts ruled that Congress could not decide the fate of slavery in new territories. He denied the southern states request to secede from the Union, but agreed that he could not legally prevent them from doing so. Buchanan was president when the Civil War broke out at Fort Sumter. His legacy is one of confusion and somewhat regret, he died shortly after his presidency.

He was the only bachelor president in American history.

Presidency: Buchanan assumed the presidency during a period of increasing tension over slavery and differences between the North and South. I also agree about the last 5 because I have never heard of thos men ever, and I also read about them and basically...they're a bunch of nobody's compared to the top 5. John F. Kennedy was known for his well known presidency as well as his political choices that had a positive effect on the U.S. Now for a man that I have no idea on I chose Charles A. Arthur it sounds like he didn't really do anything in his presidency; rather boring. Something I did find interesting was that he tried to lower tariff rates so the government doesn't get embarrassed.

I believe the ranking are very accurate and Ronald Wilson Reagan being one of them is accurate he was born in February 6, 1911 and he died in June 5, 2004, he was an American politician and actor who served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. He was a member of the Republican Party and became an important figure in the cold war. During his presidency he came with a treaty between America and the soviet. And the only con he did was forcing people to go to fight in the Vietnam war which if the people refused they would be sent to jail.

An president who I never heard of is James Buchanan. A fact about him is he is the only president who never married. Basically he was born Pennsylvania on April 23, 1791. One of his worst times in presidency is that he failed to understand that the North would not accept constitutional arguments which favored the South. Nor did he realize how sectionalism had realigned political parties: the Democrats split; the Whigs were destroyed, giving rise to the Republicans. the only thing he did well was supporting the union since he didn't want the country to split.

Cons of him being president was that the Korean War, accusations of corruption in his administration, and the anti-communist red-baiting of McCarthy and his allies had all contributed to the President's poor standing with the public.

I agree with George Washington being ranked at number 1, just because he fought hard for our country. His life before politics was spending his time at Ferry Farm. When His father died when he was 11, he became a slave owner. Because of this he did not receive proper education unlike His older brothers. His actions saved the Revolution multiple times, and he never abused his power. He had great leadership skills and helped create the Constitution.

His cons are he owned slaves and didn't help abolish it, and he was short tempered.

An unpopular president was Warren G. Harding. His life was like living in rural Ohio all his life. He then bought The Marion Star, and built it into a great newspaper. He did also have a chair in the senate. But he has more cons than pros. His pros were establishing the Budget and Accounting Act. This established the country's first formal budgeting process. His cons are he was a corrupt and played poker constantly. He was also a big womanizer. He had many public affairs.

I agree with the lists. I think George Washington changed America for the better. He knew what America needed and executed it. I'm not very informed on what the "worst" presidents did that made them bad. I wouldn't have the best opinion on that.

Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767. He was the 7th president. Before his presidency he studied law and was a district attorney. Later he was a General for the U.S. Army. His presidency is controversial. Him and his supporters viewed Native American cultures as inferior and were dismissive of their rights and sovereignty. Pros of his presidency are that he laid the framework for democracy, paid off the national debt, gained new lands for America, strengthened relationships with foreign nations globally and issued a new currency.

Franklin Pierce was born on November 23, 1804. He was the 14th president. He became president at a time of what seemed on the surface like domestic tranquility. He studied law then entered politics. In 1829, he was elected to the New Hampshire legislature, two years later he became its speaker. Two months before he took office, his 11-year-old son Benjamin was killed in a horrific train accident. He was the third and final son to die young. Pierce and his wife struggled to cope with these losses throughout his presidency and for the rest of their lives. In his Inaugural Address he proclaimed an era of peace and prosperity at home, and vigor in relations with other nations. Cons of his presidency were that he struggled as a national leader when he openly advocated for pro slavery states as a Northerner.

Gisela Martinez

I agree with the rankings. The top 5 did a lot of good things for our country.

-A popular president I chose was Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson was born on April 13 1743. Jefferson' s dad was a slave and a plantation owner, once he died, Jefferson, at the age of 14, inherited some of of the enslaved individuals. As he grew, he owned about 600 slaves. Jefferson' pursued his career in law. He worked alongside Alexander Hamilton but soon became rivalries on different parties. He became president on March 4th 1801. During his presidency he focused on reducing the national debt by cutting the military budget. Cons about Jefferson were is he would abuse his power. initially he bought Louisiana from France for 15million. The Constitution did not give permission for a president to acquire land from a foreign power.

-An unpopular president I chose was Ulysses S. Grant. His father was a plantation owner. He was born on April 27 1822. Grant received an education from several private schools and later attended the United States Military Academy In West Point. Grant became a plantation manager, managing the enslaved and free laborers while working alongside them. He was elected president in 1868. A pro was he fought to protect the rights of African Americans more than any other nineteenth-century President. He worked hard to ensure the passage of the Fifteenth Amendment and tried to make it possible for blacks to vote.

A con was he experienced cases of fraud during his presidency and mismanagement. He was criticized for not "doing enough."

My thoughts on the ranking are that they seem to be pretty accurate. The first president of the U.S. was obviously going to be on the top. For most of the bad rankings I've never heard of them.

One popular president I choose is Ronald Reagan. I recognize him because of the museum. His presidency overall was controversial. Had a tax reform bill but couldnt be passed it was beyond his power. High officials had secretly approved the sale of weaponry to Iran and illegally diverted the proceeds to anti-government "freedom-fighters" , there was later on rumor about transactions. He is most known for constituting a realignment toward conservative policies in the United States.

One Unpopular president I choose was Harry S.Truman. I personally have never heard of him. He ordered atomic bombs dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, after that Japanese surrendered. He proposed the expansion of Social Security and public housing. He is best know for leading the United States through World War II.

Lincoln was a really smart and strong man. He really did try to change the world of racism. He will see the effects and history on the Civil War. Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm, splitting rails for fences, and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. In 1858, Lincoln ran against Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois for senator. He lost the election, but in debating with Douglas he gained a national reputation that won him the Republican nomination for president in 1860.On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that all enslaved people in states that were still in rebellion would henceforth be free. While the order did not address slavery’s status in the Border States or in southern states already under Union control, the proclamation transformed the meaning of the war and turned the Union forces into an army of liberation. It also permitted African Americans to enlist, and by the end of the war more than 200,000 black soldiers and sailors contributed to this national fight for freedom. He made it possible so slaves can be free and join the army. He did win the civil war. On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theater in Washington by John Wilkes Booth, an actor, who somehow thought he was helping his beloved South

Warren G. Harding.

Harding was born near Marion, Ohio in 1865. He maintained a lifelong connection to the town, purchasing and operating The Marion Daily Star newspaper from 1884 until 1923. He married Florence Kling De Wolfe on July 8, 1891 and the couple settled in Marion where they were active community members. Harding’s undeviating Republicanism and vibrant speaking voice, plus his willingness to let the machine bosses set policies, led him far in Ohio politics. He served in the state Senate and as lieutenant governor, and successfully ran for governor. He delivered the nominating address for President Taft at the 1912 Republican Convention. In 1914 he was elected to the Senate, which he found “a very pleasant place.”By 1923 the postwar depression seemed to be giving way to a new surge of prosperity, and newspapers hailed Harding as a wise statesman carrying out his campaign promise—“Less government in business and more business in government.”lthough Harding was not directly implicated in the scandal, looking wan and depressed, he journeyed westward in the summer of 1923, taking with him his upright secretary of commerce, Herbert Hoover. “If you knew of a great scandal in our administration,” he asked Hoover, “would you for the good of the country and the party expose it publicly or would you bury it?” Hoover urged publishing it, but Harding feared the political repercussions.

Harding did not live to find out how the public would react to the Teapot Dome scandals of his administration. In August 1923, he died in San Francisco. He suffered a fatal cardiovascular event, likely a heart attack.

Although I was surprised that Ronald Reagan was up there too.

Popular President: Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Hawaii. His father was from Kenya, and his mother was from Kansas. After high school, Obama went to Occidental College in California for two years, then transferred to Columbia University in New York. He later went to Harvard Law School and became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. When Obama became president in 2009, the country was in the middle of a big financial crisis. He worked hard to fix the economy, helped improve health care, and made new rules for banks to protect people. He also made it legal for gay people to serve in the military openly. He helped bring an end to the life of Osama bin Laden, the leader of the group that caused the September 11 attacks. He also worked to reduce the danger of global warming by signing the Paris Climate Agreement.

Unpopular President: Herbert Hoover was born in 1874 in Iowa. He was a very smart man who worked as an engineer and helped with relief during World War I. Before becoming president, he was known for helping people in need during tough times. Hoover became president in 1929, just before the Great Depression which was a time when many people lost their jobs and money. The economy was very bad and people were struggling to find work and food. Even though Hoover tried to help by creating programs to improve the economy his ideas didn't work well and many people blamed him for the tough times. His inability to fix the economy made him very unpopular. He lost the election in 1932 to Franklin D. Roosevelt, who promised to do more to help people. Hoover is best known for being president during the Great Depression, and because he couldn't fix the economy, many people remember him as an unpopular leader. However, after his presidency, he worked hard to help with humanitarian efforts and was respected for his charity work.

Presidential rankings are subjective, but Lincoln, FDR, and Washington are usually at the top for their leadership in tough times. Buchanan, Johnson, and Harding rank low due to failures like secession, bad Reconstruction policies, and scandals. Opinions change over time—Truman was unpopular when he left office but is now seen as one of the better presidents.

Popular President: Franklin D. His presidency saw Social Security, the Lend-Lease Act, and a stronger federal government. While he restored confidence and built alliances, his internment of Japanese Americans remains controversial. He is remembered as one of the most influential presidents.

Unpopular President: James Buchanan – Born in 1791, Buchanan was an experienced politician but failed as the 15th president (1857-1861).
