Bents father, William Bent, was a  famous fur trader. His mom was a Cheyenne tribe member and when she married George's  father  he became  became the chief.  William Bent stopped many conflicts between settlers and Native Americans .William could speak over 5 languages. George joined the army and was captured by the union. The attacked up and down the South Platte River.  And tried to ambush a fort named Rankin. The Native Americans were going to lure them out then ambush.The 10 Native Americans chosen went to the wall and waited until they came the decoys ran and were chased by  13 men including captain O'Brian . But the fort wasn't big enough for all , so they camped near a place called sand creek. 
After that Commander Chivington came with over 425 men.  When he got to the fort, he led 250 of the soldiers.
