Abiotic Factors

Abiotic Factors- any nonliving thing in a place. The desert biome has many abiotic factors. All three tyoes of deserts (hot, cold, and coastal) share the following abiotic factors: Rainfall, temperature, soil, sun, climate, and water. Each type of desert has different amounts of all these factors. The costal deserts get the most rainfall, then the hot deserts, then cold deserts. Temperature varies greatly between the three deserts. Hot desets have the greatest temperature and to the right there is a climate graph for hot deserts. Costal deserts get the most rainfall, but do not have the highest temperature. Cold deserts have the least rainfall and the lowest temperature.

The estimated productivity of the desert biome is relativley low due to the low amounts of rainfall and small amounts of vegetation and water. The same goes for ecological services of the desert, but whatever plants that grow there give adequate resources to the animals that live there

Biotic Factors- any living thing in a place. Biotic factors of the desert biome are not as rich as in other biomes because of the harsh environments. Cacti are one of the main plants in hot deserts. Cati have adapted to the harsh environment by storing water in their stems. In the Gobi desert the most common seconary consumer is the brown bear. A few more examples of secondary consumers in the Gobi are snow leppards, Lammergeier buzzards, and wolves. The Artic desert contains the most diverse primary consumers in the desert biome. Some of them include fish like salmon and trout and insects. Animal adaptations are the most obvious in cold deserts. Animals have developed thick fatty skin to protect them from the harsh cold.
