He is misunderstood because people believe that he's some sort of monster. In the poem "Ape" the audience misunderstand the actions of the ape as entertainment but the ape is actually trying to reach out for help because it's being held in a cage and it wants to interact.<br> </div>]]></description>

The ape was an outcast in the sense that like Boo, no one really cared about how he felt and what he wanted.
