Share any thoughts you have in response to the following questions: (1) How would you describe the difference between Mr. Sigman’s and Mr. Bennett’s questioning and interacting with their struggling groups? (2) What does Mr. Sigman seem to be mostly focused on? What about Mr. Bennett? (3) At the end of the lesson, what do you think Mr. Sigman’s group (Luz, Jerry, and Tina) understand about proportionality and scaling? What do you think Mr. Bennett’s group (Rita, Jordan, and Luis) understand? We’ll be discussing these questions further when we meet.

Unless I am doing something wrong both of the assignments were Mr. Bennett's dialogue. It is hard to compare two identical documents. I did find the dialogue in the binder and Mr. S was definitely more student led. He asked questions to get the students thinking of what could be the next steps rather than leading the students to the next steps.

I think Mr. Sigman's class might have a better understanding because although they struggled that struggle caused a better understand. Mr. Bennett's group might not remember what he guided them through because there was as much of a struggle.

Mr. Sigman asks his students to articulate their reasoning. Mr. Bennett gives a bunch of reminders. Mr. S. guides the students and avoids dominating the conversation. Mr. B. is preoccupied about time and getting to the next part of the lesson. His questions are often funneling, although he does try to connect the skill to previous lessons.

Mr. Sigman's group appears ready to move on, while Mr. Bennett's group with repeated errors and confusion is in need of more practice with proportional reasoning.
