I think this way because when he joined Major League Baseball, he had to deal with being called names, threatened, and even being hurt by the other team, or even his own team members. He also had thousands of people watching him, and not all of them were on his side, since some of them called him names because of his skin color. He was also under a lot of pressure, since African-Americans wouldn't be able to get into the MLB if Jackie Robinson Failed. When you compare this to when he tested the ice for the children to skate on, it's much more different. It did require some courage, but if he failed to check and see if the ice was safe, his family would still love him and support him, and everything would stay normal. He wasn't called names or threatened either, so that made it much more easier.
