Although children can live within the same community, they may all have different lived experiences within that community depending on other factors e.g. family, home, peers, income etc. Therefore, each individual child’s experience within that community will have an impact/influence on their learning and development. For example, within one community there may be both children who come from affluent families and children who come from families that live in poverty. Although these children live within the same community, they will go through life with different levels of development and experience due to these varying factors. Depending on the child's family structure, their emotional and social development will differ. Additionally, the child's home environment will also have an impact on their physical development too.

This may vary from child to child however as they are likely most impacted by the factors direct to them such as family and peers. Children may be impacted by the opportunities available in their local community such as the availability of outdoor space to play and explore, local libraries and learning opportunities as well as the presence of poverty and unsafe surroundings.

In the context of a rural school it is often the case that the school is the central hub of the community.

Children being educated in a rural school with a large catchment area can often be affected socially as they do not have the same opportunities to engage with children outside of the school environment.

Many of the children in this area come from affluent backgrounds which in turn affects their learning and development with many children being provided materials at home that can impact positively on their learning.

The community can affect and influence a child's learning and development as the financial situation of an area can affect the quality of school provisions and possibly children's quality of education. Children will also make their friendships within their community, which will affect their self-esteem, sense of security and self identity. Living in an affluent area may also provide more opportunities to support children's development through more extra-curricular groups and out of school activities, whereas an impoverished area may not have access to these same opportunities.

The community can impact and influence a child's development by exposing children to situations that may only occur in certain areas of the country. Children's communities could have an impact on the families income, then potentially will have an impact on the children's quality of life; whether it is the ability to have food on the table for 3 meals a day, or having a clean bed to sleep in.
Schools can help to relief some stress by introducing breakfast clubs so the kids have got food in their stomaches to start the day. After school clubs eg. homework club, sports club, art club. These types of clubs allow the pupils to have time with an adult and other children developing on their skills no matter of they are academic, social or artist.

The area itself will have an impact on a child's learning and development - more affluent areas will potentially have more opportunities for children to enhance their learning and have better access to extra-curricular activities and facilities. On the other hand, more deprived areas are likely to have fewer opportunities for children along with less accessible extra-curricular activities (families may not be able to afford these). In more deprived areas, children could be open to seeing more theft, violence and drug abuse from a young age. Although this is not good/healthy for children these instances can provide rich learning opportunities which can motivate children in their education along with shaping who they are as a person. Children from more affluent areas where these things are at a lower level will not have the same rich learning opportunities.
Communities within areas can also impact a child's learning and development. Closer (and commonly smaller) communities are likely to have everyone communicating with each other, enabling children to learn from a variety of people living in their area, whether it is about life, work, education, or relationships. In communities that are not close, these learning opportunities will be far and few between.
Schools can enhance children's learning by paying close attention to the community in which they live to make learning more accessible and relatable.

A community helps to give children a sense of belonging as they navigate the world. A child’s environment begins in the family, but then extends to other adults and peers outside who also have important roles in their life. When a child has this sense of belonging, they can thrive in their learning.

It is important to remember that there is some social inequality across communities. Statistically, children in less affluent areas are more likely to experience issues in their development. Schools can provide a sense of community and belonging for children through activities, school values, etc.

The community in which a child grows up can have a large impact on a child’s learning and development. Although many complex factors play a role and there are influences from the wider community a child experiences the community through the eyes and ears of ‘key adults’. Each child’s experience will be different as each family can experience a different community- some with strong networks, others more isolated. A community can bring about a sense of belonging, paramount to a child’s learning and development. Bronfenbrenner developed a theory based on the influences of the environment- the influencing factors differ from child to child and the variables within the community can mechanisms to empower and support every individual child.

This is relatively untrue as there are areas of depravation but the community plays a big part and definitely comes together to help and support community family projects. I witnessed the positive impact this had in school and the impact on learning and development. On placement my school had a great relationship with families and pupils in supporting and building positive relationships which I seen transfer into learning and development in classroom. The positive relationships and network of support from other services working together with school has shown me the power of community working to influence learning and development.

The community in which a child is a part of can have a big impact on the child's learning and development. An area such as Ellon which has a lot of green space can provide a host of learning opportunities for children as well as development opportunities. Children who live in communities where they are not close to areas such as woods and rivers may not get the same opportunities to explore risk and develop their gross motor skills as the children who do have access to areas like these. Likewise children who grow up in more built up areas may be more confident around traffic and have more experience of road safety than those who live in rural areas that don't often walk in towns or have very little traffic passing their house.

The community can impact and influence a child's development as they will begin to develop a sense of belonging within it. Children will experience their community firstly through adults within their life but will gain a different perspective as they do not yet have their own experiences to draw on. Children will all have different experiences within different communities even if they are in the range of each other. Factors including poverty, family networks, and political and legal aspects can all alter the overall community and so this can then affect each child's development.

As the work of theorists such as piaget suggest children learn from their experiences and the world around them building on their knowledge as they go. This shows the importance that the community has on a child as they grow up living within one. the community can have huge influences on how children perceive the world and who that children grows up to be.

The opportunities that a community can provide for a child will vary from place to place. This is often due to the affluence of the area and the availability of space. It is important to remember however although several children may grow up living in the same place the community will benefit differently as they will interact and be exposed to various factors.

Block A placement school is situated in a rural area, this could bring factors such as isolation for families who live out-with the main village (Farms etc), however I would say due to it being a quiet/rural area there is a strong religious impact (church/Sunday schools) acting as a main community hub. This applies for those who are not religious (i.e yoga classes etc), overall creating a strong sense of community for children's learning and development.

Communities are a platform for children to live a nurturing personal and social life. Living in a safe and secure community allows children to independently discover the world around them, socialise with friends and neighbours, and have access to a good education. When children do not live in a community that promotes security children may face barriers in their development. Therefore, the school community is an imperative place in all children's lives no matter what background they come from. Schools should offer healthy, encouraging, and flourishing development for all children if their home community can not.

Community plays an essential role in the development of children. In addition to providing a sense of belonging, a sense of identity, and a sense of learning, communities provide an environment that fosters relationships. Developing positive, responsive, and secure relationships with others in a community is key to supporting children's development, well-being, and learning. Having a sense of belonging and feeling safe, secure, and supported gives children the confidence to play, explore, and learn. Through experiencing everyday life and participating in a community, children learn, observe, engage, understand, and actively contribute to their world. Children need to be able to participate in different communities so they can respond to diversity and become responsible citizens.

The community which a child is brought up within can impact and influence their learning and development. Children may have a sense of belonging and attachment to this particular community, this community could impact the child in either a positive or negative way dependant on how secure, safe and nurtured the child feels within this community. All communities vary therefore the children within different communities are going to vary in the way which they are impacted and influenced, this could for example be in terms of behaviour (social) - a sense of community can positively support children in thriving, building mannerisms and learning about themselves.

It is well known that children need a safe and happy environment to ensure that they thrive in their learning and development. A community that is a safe and supportive place to live supports families to have opportunities that benefit them. Communities that have low crime rates, outdoor spaces to play and explore and sports centers allow children to thrive without fear and grow up with advantages that benefit them for their whole life. In comparison, areas with high levels of crime and little to no access to clubs or activities can impact a child's learning as there is little stimulus for their learning and development as well an increase in fear (heightened fight or flight) that can negatively impact their ability to learn.

The community has a significant influence on children's learning and development. The community in which a child lives in can help to create their sense of belonging as well as sense of identity. Different children live in different communities which can open and close different opportunities for these children, however this can still happen for say two children who live in the same community.

Being from Glasgow, it is so prevalent just how different communities, even just a 10 minute drive away from each other, can impact children from these. For example, the community in which I am from has multiple large parks and green spaces within walking distance as well as schools, amenities and leisure facilities.
However, I am also aware that very near me, there are children and their families who do not have this within their community.
This can cause these children to have different outlooks and perspectives on life and opportunities available to them. Their happiness can be impacted by this which in turn impacts their sense of identity and belonging in the area in which they live.

Children need to feel supported and even if they do not pick up on it explicitly, there needs to be an environment where they are cared for - children cannot always be expected to 'feel' cared for as they may not know any different, and that is a good thing. If the child comes from an unstable community, or somewhere where there is a lot of violence or disturbance, they may feel unsafe, and be in a constant fight or flight mode, meaning they are unable to focus on their learning as they are so busy looking out for their own safety. As well, the communities interests (church/religion, work, relaxation) and what their family and household put their time towards will influence what a child picks up as important.

The community has a huge impact and influence over children's development. Considering the ecological system and how they are all connected means that the way children behave, form opinions and beliefs, have access to opportunities or lack of all depend on the community they live in. From the home with their primary support their should start their sense of belonging. This links to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs arguing that without a feeling of belonging with love and trust and security children are less likely to develop at a normative rate. Sense of belonging and community can impact everything, it is imperative for teachers to get to know each child's community and explore the possible positive and negative effects that it could influence. Knowing this could help support learning through their interest and make connections through their learning with deeper meaning to them.

Communities greatly impact the ways in which a child learns and develops. Each child’s experience will be different as each family has different experiences within a community- some with stronger networks, and others feeling more isolated. Therefore, it is key to acknowledge that there are many different circumstances for individuals within the same area. There will be varying ‘lived lives’ of children across the school community, with children experiencing their community through the “key adults in their lives”. A community therefore plays a key role in a child’s life, providing a sense of belonging, which is key for a child’s learning and development.

Coming from the perspective of a Christian school meant that some of the children attending the school had a Christian upbringing and were very religious and some children had no religious upbringing and it was just the school in their area. It was quite a deprived area meaning that the children all had different levels of support at home, affecting their development within the classroom.
