I find it compelling that Tuhiwai Smith shares a very important point that the idea that “post-colonialism” implies that colonization has ended, when in reality, the same systems of power continue to dominate continue to shape and oppress indigenous people and other marginalized communities. I was particularly moved by her argument that Indigenous peoples are not fragmented by choice but are actively working to recenter their identities and rebuild from centuries of colonial disruption.
