When Jonas finds out that his father releases people Jonas says to the giver "Giver," Jonas suggested, "you and I don't need to care about the rest of them." until he realizes that he needs to care so the other people in his community wont have to suffer by experiencing all of those memories like that last time the Reciver was chosen. In other words he wants to escape his problems and all of the memories but he cant just leave them like rosemary did all of those years ago.The author is trying to makes us see that it is important to care about other people and in this case all of the other people in the community and keep them safe from all of the things that they haven't experienced.This quote moves the story forward by showing conflict in Jonas with himself and the giver. which will have to give room in the story to resolve it.
