The major conflict of "Hatchet" is man vs nature because Brian (the main Character) was on a plane to a oiling field in Canada when the pilot suddenly had a heart attack and died. When he crashed and could finally move he had to find food to eat (berries), find a fresh water source that is safe to drink, make a shelter, etc. "and there came [...] nothing to eat." pg 47

A minor conflict in the story "Hatchet" is man vs man and it is the one between him and his mother. It affects him because he has such a hatred for his mother because of the divorce and the mystery man. This could impact the story because if his parents never got divorced he never would be in the Alaskan woods by himself and would not be in the situation he is in.
