I enjoyed everyone’s songs and it really gave me more ideas for things I could add to a song. I heard a lot of layering and distortion . I also noticed that peoples songs sounded really clear and not like I was searching for a sound.
- I used matches and a foam roller in my song.
- The matches were an idea from a Billie Eilish song, where her brother uses matches for a snap sound.
-The most important thing I learned from this course was mic placement and reverb/EQ. Even tho I wasn't in a studio with mics and instruments I could imagine what it would be like to have to manage those expensive tools.
-In the final challenge where we had to act as though we were recording a song for a band I really got in the mindset of the sole operator. I was imagining recording, cleaning up, engineering, producing, and it all felt like a lot so it just made me appreciate what recording studios do and all the people they have working there.

real time V.S offline bouncing

Depending on the DAW, you may have two options when bouncing: real-time and offline. Real-time means the bounce happens on real-time and will take as long as the file is in length. Sometimes there is also the option to listen to the file as it's bouncing as a way to audit the success of the bounce. Offline bouncing happens as fast as the computer can handle. This can take just a few moments or nearly as long as the project length depending on the CPU. You will not have an option to list at the same time. With the modern computer, there shouldn't be any difference between these options and are just personal preference. (some audio professionals claim there is a benefit to realtime bouncing).

Signal Processing - Modulation

Modulation effects are an interesting category of effects because they all are based around the same concept (a modulating parameter) but can produce vary different sounding results. These effects are also more specialized and are not used in every production, which is why they are discussed after the more common gain-based/dynamic and time-based effects.Essentially, modulation effects rely on a modulator, like an LFO (aka: low frequency oscillator), to change a parameter at a specified rate of time. One way to imagine this is to think of someone rotating a parameter knob up and down while sound plays through. Having someone actually do this manually would be impractical so that is why an LFO takes on that duty. Depending on how the modulation is happening, you will encounter these common effects: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Vibrato, and Tremolo.
