http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6218028/

This paper is about the development of MLEA, a platform that assists, through Android cellphones and tablets, the mobility of users of learning virtual environments. MLEA is an application that implements computational techniques such as web services, design patterns, ontologies, and mobile computational techniques in order to allow the communication between mobile devices and the content management system - Moodle. It's based on a service oriented, client server architecture that combines the REST protocol and JSON format for data interchange. The client will be provided with features for alerts, file downloads, chats and forums, grade books, quizzes, and calendar, among others.

Feasibility of adaptive streaming technologies in developing an integrated learning platform

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7274560/

Education system is going through a reform in terms of delivering lectures, with recent studies suggesting that shorter lectures help students to focus on the concepts thoroughly as well as effectively as they are found to be more engaging than the longer ones. However, making it a reality in traditional classroom settings is a big challenge. One possible alternative is to deliver lecture through short, bite-sized chunks of videos over the Internet which the students can access using their own devices at their own time, thus creating a flexible learning environment. This again posts another challenge in terms of its functionalities in bandwidth-scarce situations. This paper conducts a feasibility study of developing such a system, termed integrated learning platform, or iLEAP, by utilising adaptive streaming technology algorithms. iLEAP is intended to host lecture videos as well as discussion forums for students to engage in active discussions among themselves. This paper discusses the methods by which the data size can be reduced so as to enable the platform to work satisfactorily under varying network conditions. Evaluation of some of these techniques is done to show the viability of such a system which can enhance the learning experience of students. The paper concludes with further insights on the possibility of such techniques in other useful areas such as telemedicine.

This is also the case in higher education as well. Introduction of different e-learning tools requires from teachers and students deep knowledge in new emerging techniques. In the article we describe a project oriented approach in studying and 3 case studies on how new technology can improve the e-learning environment in HEIs.

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8067967/

In recent years, there is a tremendous development in wireless standards. The objective of this research is to build usability and quality to the end user experience for streaming multimedia content between from small screen devices to large screen devices wirelessly. This is achieved by utilizing peer-to-peer connection with less power consumption in the design. Also by reconfiguring a low power embedded board as an access point with customized mobile application. The proposed system's Hardware involved two units. An Android sink using an embedded board that shall connect to TV through HDMI port. Second Android source is any small screen. The proposed system is experimented with mobile phones which are enabled with wireless display(Wi-Di) such as YU YUREKA PLUS, Lenovo 7000 and ISUS. The customized Mobile App tested with all mobile phones with Raspberry Pi as access point connected to large screen through HDMI port.

Project based learning is one of the most effective methods of education that helps students to acquire deeper understanding in their studies. However, this method may not be the best when implemented in university level as students have shorter duration of study per semester which is 14 weeks.

In this short period; students are required to learn new programming languages, troubleshoot problems, prepare for presentation and complete their project by the end of semester. Therefore, we are proposing an Android-based application that will be able to display lectures on a smartphone with a single tap using Narrow Field
Communication technology.

With its portability, the application can be used anywhere and anytime. The application emphasises on guiding the students’ on achieving their weekly goals in order to complete the project. The application will be developed on an Android-based smartphone that is more popular in comparison to an IOS based smartphone. The system will use the aid of raspberry pi to enable lectures playback.

The lectures can be easily accessed by tapping the smartphone to a flash cards embedded with NFC tags. With just a single tap, students can watch videos of short lectures and short tutorials on their Android smartphone. This application will guide students step by step into completing their project. In addition to that, it will also provide an integrated learning experience for students.
