These are pivotal moments that can change the experience for better or worse. Having identified them you will be able to look at how to build on the good experiences and address the problems.

Once you understand where an intervention needs to take place you can start to look at potential solutions. This is where digital media tools may provide you with some answers.

various types of digital tools (including social media) can transform what we do to make it better, faster, cheaper, more responsive etc (and fun) but we need to know we are 
actually solving real-world problems and delivering tangible benefits.

In this section we look at working with colleagues to develop a shared understanding of what the student experience is like now and how we might improve it.
It is important that your approach is participatory from the start. Here we suggest some techniques you might use. 
We have concentrated on the Student Experience Journey Mapping (SXJM) approach and included a range of others if that doesn't seem to meet your needs.

You might still face  barriers in persuading colleagues to try doing things differently. Here we look at types of evidence that might help convince others. Case studies and hearing from peers and students seem to work well.

You will also need to make a business case for change. In the workshop and in the associated guidance we look at how to translate a better student experience into measurable performance indicators.

We would recommend spending much longer on SXJM in your own setting. 
Factor in the time to create personas and a behaviour line - will you do this in advance or will this be the first task for your group?
Perhaps you will need a half day workshop mapping the journey followed by another half day workshop to find a practical solution to address the key issues and develop a realistic action plan.

We had some great ideas from participants:

1. If doing this with a large number of staff try creating a number of different personas so that each group takes a different person on the journey. This will help you establish early on if the key issues and possible solutions are the same for a wide range of students.

2. Try creating a behaviour line and invite students to add their perceptions of their emotional journey in real-time. This can either be done online e.g. in a padlet such as this or could take the form of a wall chart in a location that the students visit regularly.
