Use of scientific-sounding language that is meaningless

Definition: Such a use of scientistic-sounding yet meaningless terminology has come to be known as "pseudoscience".

Connection: The lemonade stand boasts of implausibly dramatic descriptions: "PulpSqueeze PowerTart Lemonade with FreshYum and ThirstQuench Technology." As she says, "I don't know what any of that means either, but it's just like how dad's razors are advertised." This insinuates that a plethora of complicated terms adds to this product an aura of refinement and novelty.

Definition: The failure to demonstrate replicability or verification of results speaks to the lack of reliability in the research, pointing towards flawed methodology or data. It is considered one of those factors that helps draw a line between real science and pseudoscience.

Connection: This drawing of repetition of an action, untraceable or uncheckable for its first step, reflects well the fact that, without a replicable process where transparency is always guaranteed, the outcome tends to slip out toward becoming unreliable and unverifiable. That results in an endless loop: findings are self-referencing without any kind of validation from outside that confirms accuracy and authenticity.

Definition: Deliberately creating mystery refers to an intentional obscurity created to raise curiosity or create intrigue.

Connection: The imagery of the detective suggests that something is hidden-some truth, some solution-which needs investigation to come out. This agrees with the idea of "deliberately creating mystery" whereby information is obscured or presented in such a way as to invite confusion or curiosity and hence impossible to create a full picture without extensive scrutiny. Often this kind of tactic is used to keep people guessing or to provide some air of intrigue and uncertainty.

But the term is at best misleading and is virtually unregulated.

Connection: While they do contain some fruit ingredients, there are added sugars and other processed components. The implication of "all natural" is misleading, making one think the product is healthy or completely unprocessed, neither of which may be true. This is the use of naturalness as a marketing ploy to play on consumer perception.

These phrases are often used in alternative or holistic practices.

Connection:The shining aura and the bright energy of the figure bring into one's mind ideas related to mystical or supernatural belief-those in which energy is thought of as an invisible and powerful force connecting human beings with higher realms or universal consciousness.

Definition: Appeal to authority is a logical fallacy in which an argument is supported by the opinion of an authority instead of presenting any valid evidence.

Connection: The people nod to the central figure, probably under the assumption that what he says must be right because of some supposed authority, without questioning or debating the truth in his information. This is an example of "appeal to authority"-where arguments are accepted because of who makes the argument, rather than on the basis of the content of the argument itself.
