Paul Celan's Childhood

Celan could only write in German. Celan studied medicine in Paris but had returned before the starting of World War 2. During WW2, Paul worked in a forced labor camp for about a year. He had wrote tons of poems during his life. He wrote poems such as "Death Fugue" and "Sand from the Urns". He also wrote a book named, "Poppy and Memory". The killings of his parents made a big impact on his writing and that is how he became a famous writer. German was his mother's gift to him and the weapon that killed her was also why he became a poet. Paul had also experienced tremendous guilt because he survived a labor camp and escape while his parents were being murdered. But in 1970, Celan suffered from depression and killed himself.
