Share one photo you made this week, either hands or eyes, and tell us about it. What settings did you use to make it, why do you like it, why is it a good photo, and what could you have done to make it better. When you comment on your classmates' photos, share what you noticed first and then on a second look, share why you like this photo, and share any constructive feedback you would like to pass on to your peer. Make sure you read the feedback people leave for you, this is the kind of stuff that helps artists grow!

This photo was made on my first camera, a Nikon D7000 with a 50mm f1.8 portrait lens. ISO was 200, aperture was f2.5, and shutter speed was 1/250s.

I know that I had no idea what I was doing when I made this photo on April 8, 2021 but I will forever love this photo, long after my father is gone. I love it because it tells the story of him; his injuries and the work he has done with his hands, the way he chews his fingernails when he is anxious, all of it.

I love the way this photo is framed, that it highlights his wedding ring and captures the detail of the wrinkles and veins and hair on his hands. I am also proud of the editing, it is flattering to the subject.

Something I wish I had done differently is to actually know how to use my camera. I would never make this photo with shutter speed at 1/250s now but I still had no idea what I was doing then. These are the perils of being a self-taught photographer.

I took this picture with my zoom in on my iPhone. I focused on capturing the natural light that created a catchlight on the eye. I had the subject look in the distance so that I could capture the eye from the side. I really like how focused the camera was able to get on the details of the eye. I also like how the light was in an arc which is more interesting in the eye.

Then I cropped the photo to make her it was just her eyes and framed nicer. I think eye photos are really pretty and I think me and Riley were able to captures eachothers really well. I also think this photo shows the shape of eyes nicely and looks pretty cool. I also think capturing her eyelashes as much as the rest looks really pretty.

(padlet doesn't do the photo justice)

I originally made this photo for my self-portrait portfolio, but my skill has drastically improved since. I redid this photo and completely revamped the editing. First, I turned on my flash and started a video. Then, I used a pipet and covered my main camera sensor with a large water droplet. Next, I put my eye as close as I could to the camera lense and became blind. After that, I took a screenshot of the best, most in focus moment. Finally, I used Lightroom to darken the photo and do a selective edit on my pupil and iris to brighten it and make the blues and yellows pop, while also bringing out the peculiar texture. I love this photo very much because it's one of the best I've made and I never knew I had yellow in my eyes!

I like this photo because of how much detail you can see in my eye (I think it got a little blurrier on Padlet). I think the framing is good and my eye has a leading line. If I were to take it again I would move my finger off of my face because it looks out of place under my nose.

My mom has played guitar ever since she was my age in high school so I thought it would would show a great story of passing down the enjoyment of music if she was playing my guitar which she also gifted me. I kept her hand in the upper left side of the grid while putting details of the guitar on different points on the grid to make the photo interesting. The only thing I’d change is the lighting because the reflection off of the shinier part of the guitar’s surface is distracting.

I took this picture at home. I don’t remember all the camera settings, but I really liked how it turned out. I wanted to capture the feeling of fall and how cozy it feels to be at home with family. The texture of my hand against the smooth pumpkin looks interesting and makes me think about how people connect with nature.

If I could change something, maybe I would adjust the lighting or try a different angle. But I’m still proud of how this photo shows a little story about warmth and home.
