Usrah week 1 : Taaruf and The adab in seeking knowledge and Al-quran as the Book of Guidance.

Assalammualaikum and hello everyone, so for the week 1, we started our usrah with some taaruf session . It's actually truly enjoyable experience and, indirectly, it helped to ease the discomfort between each other. Then we continue with our usrah topic for that week that presented by Sr. Wan Auni. Some of the points that she explained to us is :

THE ADAB IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

Surah Al-'Alaq (1-5)

This verse is the first revelation sent down by Allah to Prophet Muhammad, emphasizing the word “Read” which is repeated several times in the surah. The word refers to Allah calling upon His servants to seek knowledge. The verse also highlights that everything should begin in the name of Allah. Allah is the All-Powerful in granting knowledge, as His knowledge has no limits. But what are the proper etiquettes that should be observed in seeking knowledge?

Outward Manners

Repeat and reviews

- Reviewing what has been learned and memorizing the lessons that have been studied so that they can be remembered and not be in vain.

Takes note

- We can memorize and remember notes more easily by writing them down.

Ask

- Asking questions is an important aspect of learning because it helps to resolve doubts and, to some extent, aids in remembering and understanding things more easily. This can also be related to the proverb, “He who is shy to ask will lose his way.”

Extra reading and prepare for class

- In my opinion by reading, it can, to some extent, strengthen existing knowledge and subsequently increase one’s understanding. In terms of preparation, being ready before studying is important because preparing in advance can, to some extent, prevent unwanted situations such as forgetting to bring necessary items. This can be avoided by preparing a schedule to organize such tasks.

Inward Manners

Intention

- Ensuring that the intention of seeking knowledge is for the sake of Allah, because complete submission to Him will make that knowledge more blessed.

Defined goal

- Setting a specific goal regarding what we want to achieve after seeking knowledge, for example: “I want to study diligently in order to achieve excellent results and further my studies in the field of medicine to become a doctor.”

Manners and Consistency

- Manners are an important aspect of seeking knowledge, because if we do not uphold proper manners with our parents, teachers, friends, and those around us, it may cause the knowledge we gain to lose its blessings, such as facing obstacles in understanding a lesson. We must also be consistent in seeking knowledge and not just show temporary enthusiasm that quickly fades away.

Al-Quran as the Book of Guidance

Al-Quran is different from all the previous scriptures because it is the perfect and complete word of Allah. Through the Qur’an, we can also learn about the greatness of Allah’s creation, the story of Prophet Muhammad, as well as the historical accounts contained within it.

Adab of the Quran

recite in melodious tone

recite calmly and not fast

begin with ta'awudh and tasmiyah

use 'itr before

close the Quran when not reading

handle the Quran with care and respect

do not place other book on top

don't let a day go without looking at the pages of Quran

place the Quran on a raised positions

pronounce every letter correctly

use a miswak

sit in respectful manner

to have wudhu' when reciting

don't interupt another's reading

okay that's all from me, we'll meet again next week !! :>

This hadith is narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA). It is considered one of the most important hadiths because it summarizes the foundations of Islam. Scholars even call it the “Mother of the Sunnah.”

Jibril came to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the form of a man. He sat politely in front of the Prophet and asked a series of questions:

About Islam
Prophet ﷺ replied: Islam is to

Testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger,

Establish prayer,

Give zakat (charity),

Fast in Ramadan,

Perform Hajj (pilgrimage) if able.

About Iman (Faith)
Prophet ﷺ replied: Faith is to believe in

Allah,

His angels,

His books,

His messengers,

The Last Day,

Divine destiny (Qadar), both its good and its bad.

About Ihsan (Excellence)
Prophet ﷺ replied: Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you cannot, know that He sees you.

About the Hour (Day of Judgment)
Prophet ﷺ said: The one being asked knows no more than the one asking.
Then Jibril asked about its signs, and the Prophet mentioned:

A slave woman will give birth to her master,

The poor shepherds will compete in building tall buildings.

After finishing, Jibril left. The Prophet ﷺ told the companions:
“That was Jibril. He came to teach you your religion.”

🎯 Importance of This Hadith

It summarizes the three main dimensions of Islam:

Islam (practical actions),

Iman (belief/faith),

Ihsan (spiritual excellence).

It shows the Prophet’s teaching method through question and answer.

It emphasizes proper manners in seeking knowledge, since Jibril sat humbly and respectfully.

It serves as the foundation of Islam covering belief, worship, and character.

that's all from me, thanks yo!!

As we know, there are six pillars of faith that we, as Muslims, must adhere to. Today I will explain about the first three pillars of faith, which are believing in Allah, believing in the Malaikah, and believing in Kutub, which I learned during the usrah session before.

Belief in Allah

Believing in Allah means having full conviction that Allah exists, is One without partner, the Creator, the Owner, the Sustainer, and the only One worthy of worship.

Among the ways to apply this pillar of faith in daily life are performing the five daily prayers on time, practicing and reciting the Qur’an, observing the order of the natural world, and believing in the way Allah is described in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Belief in Malaikah

Accepting the existence of malaikah as spiritual beings created by Allah out of His commands and fulfil various roles, including recording deeds, delivering messages, and praising Allah.

Malaikah are created by Allah from light.
Belief in Rasul, Belief in Hereafter and Belief in Qada and Qadar

A firm belief that Allah ﷻ sent a messenger to every nation and to call them to worship Allah alone without any partners. It is a belief that all Allah’s messengers were truthful, virtuous, trustworthy and rightly guided servants who strove hard to guide their people to the right path and conveyed Allah’s message to them in full, without concealing, omitting or adding anything to it.

1. All prophets bring the same message of al-tawhid.Obedience to the prophet in religious matters is obedience to Allah SWT, conversely, disobedience to him is tantamount to disobedience to Allah.

Prophets are necessary to convey Allah’s instructions and guidance for mankind. Without this knowledge, we would be unable to answer the fundamental questions of our existence.

Guiding humanity from the worship of created beings to worship Allah SWT as their Creator.

The purpose of creation is to worship God and obey His commands, with this life serving as a test that determines one’s life after death.

Showing humanity the right path that will lead them to Paradise and to salvation from Hellfire.

God sent prophets as proof to humanity, so no one can claim ignorance of their purpose when questioned on the Day of Judgment.

Revealing the unseen world beyond the senses, including God’s knowledge, angels, and the Day of Judgment.

GREATEST BLESSINGS GIVEN TO PROPHET MUHAMMAD SAW

Allah sent Prophet Muhammad SAW to all of the two races of mankind and jinn, whereas each Prophet who came before him was sent only to his own people.

Allah supported him against his enemies by striking fear into the hearts of all his enemies

The earth was made a place of prayer and a means of purification for him.

War booty was made permissible for him, where it had not been permitted to any prophet before him.

He will be granted the position of greater intercession (syafaáh). And there are many other special favours that have been bestowed upon him (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

APPLICATION IN ONE’S DAILY LIFE

Gratitude

Tolerance

Repentance

Simplicity

Equality

Moderation

Patience

Humility

Accountability

Kindness

BELIEF IN HEREAFTER

The fifth article of Islamic Faith is belief in life after death. A person is not a believer without the belief in this pillar The Prophet SAW has directed us to believe in the Day of Judgement and resurrection after death.

Definition

The life of this world and of all that is in it will come to an end on an appointed day. Everything will be annihilated. That day is called al-Qiyamah, i.e. the Last Day.

On that day, all people who have ever lived will be brought back to life and presented before God, who will sit for judgment. This is called al-Hashr (Resurrection).

SIGNIFICANCE OF BELIEF IN HEREAFTER

This message is brought by all prophets

Man will measure the benefits and harm of their actions

EFFECT OF BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY

Demonstrates the completeness, greatness, and uniqueness of Allah’s Names and Attributes.

Increases the love for meeting Allah in the hearts of the believers.

Establishes fear from Allah.

Supports a Muslim in hastening towards good deeds

Aids in patience during times of hardship

BELIEF IN QADA' AND QADAR

Belief in pre-destination (Qada and Qadar) is one of the articles of faith in Islam. A person is not a believer without this pillar This belief leads to contentment and satisfaction, even in the face of hardship and adversity. Faith in pre-destination is implied by Allah's attribute of nourishing and sustaining the whole universe.

DEFINITION

Literally, the word Al-Qadar is taken from the root word qadara, which means knew, predetermined and planned perfectly. It relates to things before happened and something you planned.

Al-Qada’ comes from the word qada, which means judged, ordained, executed perfectly. When the things happen, then it becomes Al-Qada’. Al-Qadar is before al-Qada’. Since it is easy to pronounce, it is used as ‘al Qada’ wal-Qadar’.

Technically Al-Qadar refers to Allah’s complete Knowledge that is written in the Safe Tablet, His Will exist before the existence of all things and His creation of all things happen by His Command and Will.

4 COMPONENTS OF QADA’ AND QADAR

- Knowledge: Man must believe with total certainty that Allah has knowledge of everything; He knows the minute as well as the general details of all that happens, whether it is of His own doing or of His creatures.

- Writing. Allah has written all His knowledge of the fate of His creatures in the Preserved Tablet.

- Will. Allah wills the presence or absence of everything in the heavens and in the earth. Nothing can exist without His Will.

- Creation. This means that we believe that Allah is the Creator of everything and anything, even Death, although it is the absence of Life.

BENEFITS OF BELIEF QADA' AND QADAR

1. Peace of mind.

2. Your concern is not so much with the past or future. Your main concern is your present actions.

3. It gives you the will power and determination to go forward in the way of Allah.

4. It teaches you to be modest, humble and content.

5. Leads to total dependence upon Allah SWT. You take precautions; do as much as you can and then depend on Him.

6. Eliminate bad manners, such as envy and jealousy.

7. Establish good manner.

THE CONCEPT OF IHSAN AND ITS RELATION TO ISLAMIC ESCHATOLOGY & THE TRUTH BEHIND THE JUDGEMENT DAY

IHSAN

Ihsan is derived literally from the Arabic word (حسن)which means to be good, to beautify. hasan means suitable, beautiful, proper, or fitting or good.

Allah commands His servants to act justly and to do good. He also forbids immoral acts, wrongdoing, and oppression. This matter is also included in ihsan, as it means carrying out deeds in the best manner and with the highest quality, beyond the minimum required, in order to fulfill the true meaning of ihsan. (surah an nahl 16:90)

Allah also forbids His servants from worshiping other than Him and commands them to uphold the fundamental human duty, which is the right of parents: never disobey them and always respect them. This is because they have sacrificed greatly in nurturing us, and it is also the foundation of parents’ rights and authority.

Among the matters that must be observed in dealing with parents are:

Respect and obedience. (However, if they command you to associate partners with Allah, then it must be rejected. Still, treat parents with kindness.)

Well treatment. (Never say "ugh" to them in anger or contempt. Do not show anger towards them, and always pray for them.)

Based on the Hadith of Jibril, it is clearly stated that ihsan is to worship Allah as though we see Him, and to be certain that Allah sees us. Although this is difficult, Prophet Muhammad explained that a person can attain it by believing that Allah is All-Seeing. Someone who has the feeling of being constantly observed (muraqabah) will surely strive to improve themselves in order to attain the love and pleasure of Allah.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE JUDGEMENT DAY

MINOR SIGN OF QIYAMAH

•Women will outnumber men, eventually fifty women to each man. (Bukhari & Muslim)

•Earthquakes will increase (Bukhari and Muslim)

•Good deeds will decrease (Bukhari)

•Time will pass rapidly. Time will have no blessings (Bukhari)

(Not yet happen)

•Arabia becomes green

•Euphrates uncovering a mountain of gold

•The earth will spill forth its hidden treasures

•Siege of Madeenah

•The Mahdi to fill the earth with justice for seven years

HADIS TAMIM AL-DARY

Tamim met a young man who was tall and big, with curly hair, bound in chains of iron. Tamim asked who he was, but the young man replied by asking Tamim who they were. Then the young man asked them four questions:

“How is the date plantation in Baisan? Does it still bear fruit?”
– Tamim answered, “Yes, it still bears plenty of fruit.”
The young man then said, “There will come a time when it will no longer bear fruit.”

“How about Lake Tiberias (Thabariyyah)? Does it still have much water?”
– Tamim al-Dari replied, “Yes, it still has plenty of water.”
The young man then said, “There will come a time when it will dry up.”

“How about the spring of Zughar? Does it still have plenty of water?”
– Tamim answered, “Yes, it still has plenty of water.”
The young man said again, “There will come a time when its water will decrease and dry up.”

“Tell me about the Prophet who is unlettered, who cannot read or write. What has he done?”
– The Arab Christian (Tamim) replied that he had left Makkah and was now residing in Yathrib (Madinah).
The young man asked, “Do his people fight him?”
– Tamim answered, “Yes.”
He then asked how the Arabs treated him. Tamim replied, “He was rejected by his own people, but then he migrated to Yathrib, where the people embraced Islam, accepted him, and obeyed his commands.”
The young man then said, “It is better for those who follow him.”

Finally, he revealed, “I am Al-Masih (the False Messiah, al-Dajjal). Soon I will be permitted to emerge, and I will travel across the earth for forty nights, except for two places: Makkah and Madinah.

Based on this topic, it shows the importance of learning manners for all people. In Islam, manners mean practicing good character. Manners are a reflection of oneself in habits and actions.

Based on this, there is the story of Prophet Ibrahim and his father who worshiped idols. Prophet Ibrahim asked his father politely and used gentle words when speaking to him, even though they had different beliefs and religions. However, in the following verse, his father stated that if Ibrahim did not accept his religion, then he should go far away from him, as he was capable of harming Ibrahim.

Based on this story, we can see that there are many benefits of having good manners. One of them is that even when dealing with people of different religions, we should use polite language and avoid using harsh words such as insults when interacting with them.

VALUE YOUR TIME

In Islam, time is considered one of the most valuable blessings from Allah. Every second is an opportunity either to gain reward or to waste it. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized this by saying: “There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time.” (Bukhari).

Meaning: Many people do not realize the importance of time until it is gone. Free time and good health are golden chances to worship Allah, do good deeds, learn, and help others.

Lesson: We should use our time wisely—by praying, seeking knowledge, serving our family, and doing acts of kindness—instead of wasting it on harmful or meaningless activities.

REPENT ( TAUBAH )

Life is short, and humans are not perfect—we all make mistakes. However, Allah is Al-Ghaffar (The Forgiving) and At-Tawwab (The Accepter of Repentance).

Meaning: Repenting (tawbah) means turning back to Allah sincerely, feeling regret for sins, stopping them, and resolving not to repeat them.

Lesson: Constant repentance cleanses the heart, brings peace of mind, and strengthens our relationship with Allah. It reminds us that even if we fall into sin, Allah’s mercy is always greater when we seek His forgiveness.
