How Does Racism Make Up a Society?

A society is often built on layers. Going from less significant to up most important. However each layer is just as important as the rest. While many are willing to be accepting of those who may be viewed as different, there is an entire group who are against the "different" group of people. This causes disruption in large waves if more than just a few feel passionately for this. Sadly those who experience prejudice for how they were born often feel limited, and even outcasted. This can cause distrust, and fear in their own
environment. However when many push back against widely believed prejudices they often get a label of "weak" or "violent". This fuels the growing division between the two sides. Not too mention from the article we discussed in class over preconceived bias in people only adds to the division. Many get discriminated against just do to their name, how do you think they feel of their traditions, or even clothing choices. Even as a society we have greatly progressed since the darker parts in our history dealing with racism. However we have a lot more to dismantle, and grow upon for everyone in our society to feel welcomed, and included.

Rascism in the Music Industry

It's no surprise that like many other systems, and categories in our society, the entertainment industry has also fallen ill with racism, and prejudice. From African-American artists having work stolen by white artists, botched record deals, work place abuse, public harassments(bias, and discrimination from fellow musicians. An example of racism in the music ind. influencing our society is many believing African-American dominated genres such as Rap, or RNB being considered quote "ghetto", or "thug". Another stigma associated with those who make content for those genres are quote "destroying todays youth" and "giving them bad aspirations". Lack of representation has also caused many distress especially in the past. The Distress again comes from African-American ideas being taken by their fellow musicians who eventually get all the credit. This is a huge issue in the rock n roll scene, even legends like "the beetles" have been known to distort others works for their gain. A common issue found mainly in the metal scene is the glamorization of racism. Infamous example is Marilyn Manson who often used Nazi(Fascist imagery for shock value. A community built around expression through art should do better. They have failed to protect so many talented, and kind people all do to their race. However in recent times it does seem the music industry has done more to protect these individuals, and even lift them up. Public opinion has also swayed greatly in recent months giving many aspiring people of color artists a platform. While it may never be perfect, or eliminate all injustices it has gotten better over the years, and will continue to improve.

She started her groundbreaking career in music at just the ripe age of six. Her style of music was described as fusing blues, and New Orleans street jazz. She was one of the few African-American, female, and bisexual singers(instrumentalists of her time. At just the age of twenty three she scored her first single "rock me".
