         <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: <br>Expand scientific exploration of mushrooms</p><p><br/></p><p>Mushroom Observer is a website where you can record observations about mushrooms, help people identify mushrooms they aren’t familiar with, and expand the community around the scientific exploration of mushrooms.</p><p>By some estimates less than five percent of the world’s species of fungi are known to science. While things are slightly better for the large fleshy fungi known as mushrooms, it is still a common experience to come across a mushroom that cannot be easily identified in the available books or which doesn’t really fit the definition of any recognized species. This site is intended to address that gap by creating a place for us to talk about and record what we’ve found, as well as connect to the existing literature about mushrooms.</p><p>Please do not feel intimidated by the scientific bent of the site. Everyone is welcome to dive in and add their own mushroom observations, upload mushroom photos and make comments on other people’s observations.</p>]]></description>

Everyday, dedicated educational, non-profit, and scientific organizations and passionate citizen scientists from all around the world record data on inland and marine debris with our easy-to-use app, contributing to our open data platform where over 1.5 million items have been tracked to date. Together, we can create a bigger picture of marine debris and plastic pollution through collecting open data, generating scientific findings, informing policy, and inspiring upstream design.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: Characterize exotic clouds high in the Martian atmosphere.</p><p><br/></p><p>Clouds are a familiar feature in the atmospheres of planets. Because they can both warm and cool the atmosphere, they are important for understanding the weather and climate of planets. On Mars, icy clouds can form high in the atmosphere (above 50 km, about 30 miles up), the "mesosphere," called "mesospheric clouds". These clouds are interesting for several reasons. Although Mars is a dry planet, there is water vapor in the atmosphere that can form water-ice clouds. However, because the atmosphere of Mars is made up almost entirely (95%) of carbon-dioxide and it is cold, carbon-dioxide ice (think dry ice!) clouds can also form.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: Help build accurate predictions of visible aurora activities.</p><p><br/></p><p>Aurorasaurus is the first citizen science project that aggregates relatively rare sightings of the Northern and Southern Lights in order to improve real-time tracking and understanding of the beautiful phenomenon. The Aurorasaurus project allows the public to enter their observations of aurora through their website in order to better characterize their frequency, location, and rare visual characteristics.</p><p>Report on whether you can or cannot see the Northern or Southern Lights in your location. Every report helps! We will be adding more features soon including the ability to log in and receive notifications.</p>]]></description>

In doing so, you’ll hone your skills and learn how to identify nearly 50 groups of ocean animals. Every action in the game improves and trains machine learning models.</p><p><br>FathomVerse aims to increase our capacity to measure and monitor marine life in a changing ocean. This free mobile game offers an interactive community science experience where players engage with scientific images collected by robots and researchers around the world.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Goal: Use gaming to solve the Genome Sorting Problem</p><p><br/></p><p>The GeSort game allows players to help researchers better understand how genomes evolve by solving puzzles of different levels of difficulty.</p><p>The goal of the game is to transform a mutable row of coloured shapes into a target row with the help of three operations (duplications, deletions and inversions). The rows of coloured shapes represent sequences of genes, and the three possible operations represent biological events known to occur in real genomes. The final score of a puzzle corresponds to the total number of operations applied to the mutable row. Similarly to the game of golf, this must be achieved with as few moves as possible!</p>]]></description>
