Depending on what kinds of vocabulary the students are learning, I have had students create and present their own weather broadcast in Spanish, create a menu in Spanish, create a store in Spanish and then try to purchase items from other students vendors - all speaking in Spanish.

Alternate ending

During the perusasive/argumentative unit students choose something they are passionate about, they then have options for a final products: one is to make a PSA campaign and making a real tiktok/X/insta and sharing it in real life is part of the campaign- another option is a mini documentary and we share it with the school through our advisory time.

De La Salle High School students come a read to our students

"Community Service" where our school building was the community center. Students had to identify a problem/opportunity and then do something about it. Some wrote came up with rules for the bathroom and designed posters, some came up with ideas to give younger students recognition, some designed paper inserts for the ceiling tiles to promote school spirit.

Volunteer in the community

Spanish Immersion class volunteered together at a local fundraiser for an organization which is very active working for justice in Honduras. Students helped Spanish-speaking vendors to serve food at the event--using language to interact with both the food providers as well as attendees. We also stayed and listened to the presentation that given by the group about their work in Honduras.

Our school has an Eco Warrior club - one of their activities includes raising salmon from eggs and then taking them to a river designated by the DNR. They learn about the process of development, caring for the salmon, and then taking them to the real world.

We celebrate Earth Day with the American Association of Chemistry Teachers (tons of ideas for lessons and activities) Each year has a theme - This year it's "Get a Charge out of Chemistry" and we're learning about batteries and recycling batteries and alternative battery ideas.
