Etwa ab dem 40. Lebensjahr überwiegt der Knochenabbau. Die Knochenmasse nimmt dann normalerweise jährlich um etwa 1% ab. Bei Frauen in der Menopause kann dieser Wert bis auf 4% ansteigen. Die maximal während des Lebens erreichte Knochendichte sowie das Ausmaß des Knochen­dichte­verlustes nach Erreichen der Wechseljahre haben einen großen Einfluss darauf, ob eine Frau an Osteoporose erkrankt.
Frauen verlieren vom 40. bis zum 70. Lebensjahr durchschnittlich etwa 40 % ihrer Knochenmasse.

Es soll untersucht werden, ob durch den Konsum von 3 x täglich 10 gelatinehaltigen Gummibärchen über einen Zeitraum von 5 Jahren hinweg eine positive Wirkung auf die Knochendichte erzielt wird.
