Briefly describe a situation in your professional or personal life where you were first unsuccessful but because you stuck with it you succeeded in the end. Finish by identifying why you stuck with the problem/task and did not give up. Please, always remember to mention your first name, last name and country of origin.

I´m teaching for 25 years now, so there were times when mine ideas were unstructured and with a lack of ground, with no ability to grow. However, there have also been other situations where the project's consistency and my ability to be assertive had good results. I remember starting a career in a little school given to change.I remember starting a career in a small school in which creativity and change were seen as a threat. I wanted to work on a project that involved some research, role-play, group work and the collaboration of teachers from other subjects. Today it would be vulgar but at the time to develop this type of project work in which students had to represent / simulate the activity of a court, present ideas or defending them wasn´t an easy task.
The first step was to engage the students and it was very easy. With the students on board it was even easier to involve the parents. the dynamics of project was appearing and gradually the collaboration of other teachers was emerging. A reasonable planning, a constant positive reinforcement were enough to create something that past twenty years the students still remember and me too.

As a beginner teacher, I got so negative criticism after a lesson visited for the way I teach and treat my students that I almost quit. I had been teaching for 3 months. I proved to be too kind, too funny and students had fun during the lesson- so they were thought not to be learning at all. Even if I was deeply shocked and hurt, I decided to do my best to prove the opposite. Why would fun and a good atmosphere be contradictory to learning? How can you learn in a rigid atmosphere? How can you expect your students to learn if you are not enjoying your own lesson yourself? I think time proved me right.

I had the feeling that group work and pairwork did not fit to my classes. After two months of work I wanted to give up, but fortunately I met a collegue that really helped me to find more confidence in me. She taught me to find the reasons of my failure: she explained to me how I could be successful. Since then I have understood that motivating your students is essential.

Five years ago I taught in a school in lower grade secondary school. My pupils had 11 years old. They were not interested in school and they were not very keen on studying. It was completely useless to teach English as it was generally done: grammar, exercises, reading. They had very big problems with their mothertongue because they were accustomed to their dialect. So English was even farther from their world, their reality. In their opinion studying English was useless. The first four months were a failure. Then I changed my method. My lessons were easy word games, such ad crosswords, videos from youtube. But the most successful method was through songs. They didn’t get much about proper English but at least they were able to get the right pronunciation and meaning of some words. Having fun is always the right method!!

Most of the students were absolutely free in my classes. Because I thought that the most important thing is the students to be happy....and to come to my classroom because they want. I know that I can make everyone an Einstein....but still....As a teacher I have missions not only to teach them english grammar ...but to teach them to be happy! It was difficult and still is but I know I am right!

At the beginning I refused to teach in a digital class because I felt unprepared and I couldn't use an iPad. But I started to follow lots of courses and I spent lots of hours at home studying and experimenting the new device I bought. After an year I started to teach in a digital class and today I create video-lessons for my students and lots of interactive activities for them and I would have never imagined that I would have started to teach my colleagues how to use digital tools as well.

The first year was full of difficulties, the instrument I was given in the school of music broke several times, strings broke down every week, I suffered continuous muscular problems in my neck, back and hands. It was being so difficult that I thought to give it up, but I took it as a challenge ( I must say that I was 52 and had no idea about music ) .Obviously I will never be a great celllist but, nowadays, playing cello is the most relaxing activity that I can do when I’m come back from the school after a hard working day.

Spain
I started to work as a teacher 8 years ago and my first experience was dreadful. I had been working as a translator and, although it was a very demanding job, I found it easy to work from home, with my computer, and with adult people all over the world who didn't give much hassle most of the time.
When I started teaching, I found very disruptive students and I just was unable to manage them. It was a very hard experience and I almost got depressed. I asked myself if that was what I really wanted to do with my life and I decided that I had to make a decision after I had shown what I really can give. The next year I was in a different high-school with normally-behaved students. I was also a different person because I had learnt from my previous experience. All that made me reconcile myself with this job. After the first term, I asked myself again the same question and here I am....
I think problems are part of our lives. And what's really important is how we face them and what we learn from them (about life and about us). I always tell my students that problems make us better persons because we become stronger and more qualified.

I started the teaching job 11 years ago. My dream had been to meet happy students during learning process.

The beginning was very hard because I had not had tools to implement a "non standard" teaching way. So, I applied the old known methodology (teacher teaching and student listening and doing activities). And, obviously, it did not work. When I confirmed it, I try to change my methodology.

First of all, I replaced coursebook with my set guided, activities. It was not enough. Then I realized that students were working better, but they were not highly interested in my activities.

Some time later, I decided to program open activities where students would give me a product in a deadline. It improved the previous experience, students were more motivated, but not enough because students felt lost often (they did not know how to follow in their process). I needed some control procedures, better planning, etc.

I followed searching solutions, so I found out PBL methodology. Since then, I have been implementing this methodology in my classes. I started with a driven question and a process plan. Then I added rubrics and observation guides as assessment. Outcomes were more satisfactory and students became to enjoy learning process.

Nowadays, I am improving collaboration techniques and FAQ (there are same questions in all groups, so I spent too time resolving same doubts) .

I did not give up because I was sure that there would be a solution for my disinterested students. There are many things to improve in my classroom still, but I feel that I am on the right path.

So I've started to gain their trust and after that I've started asking them how would they like to be learning. The majority normally says that no one believes that they are capable and everyone thinks that they are irresponsible because of the disinterest in studying. In my classes they start by being the main voice of the group when working in a project. That's a magnificent confidence boost!

Since I teach English as a second language to small children 3 and 4-year old’s, the beginning of the year is always complicated and it always seems like it will not be successful because they don’t understand anything of what I tell them, and therefor they always look for most of the time the Portuguese teacher, who is also always in class. It is hard to make them stay with me in the morning because there is a language barrier. I am stuck with this problem throughout the year because they are my students, yet I never give u and I continue speaking to them, cuddling them, and giving them attention when they need it, and at the end of the year my persistence always compensates because by the end they all understand what I am saying, and they all feel comfortable with the language.

Last year I had a class that had students who could not read / speak to an audience. After giving up a few times to present the works in public, in the middle of the year they were able to do it in front of all the students of the school. I used some theatrical strategies to engage them with the audience. They started by reading seated, without looking at the audience, others wore masks in their faces, others read in groups and also requested the intervention of the public. It was very important for students to overcome their fears.

During my masters degree course, I have had a teacher that has asked us to create a learning journal in a blog. I had never done neither - and I got really mad about the blog thing! How in the world was I going to achieve it? And how could a blog fit the purpose of the learning journal? How would I get to articulate "le fil du jour" and the research I wanted to gather? I spent quite a time digging and trying and wanting to give it up. I persevered, though, because I really wished to learn and to succeed in that course, and got to the solution; I made it to the the very end. My first post in that blog has been about Dementors - the best metaphor I found for the torment I had been through to overcome that struggle.

It was the first time this had happened at school and so the teachers were suspicious. Several colleagues tried to prevent the exchange, and in that year all the students' learning difficulties were justified by the deconcentration caused by the activity. In the end the exchange took place and today it is accepted that the students visit foreign countries, although another exchange has never happened in the school.

So I tried this I gave an assignment to the class when he wasn't in class, to be honest I sent him to the headmaster's office and i told the class not to mention anything to him. The next day all the students came with their work and they brought their draws, when he saw that he started complaining that he didn't know anything about the homework. Then I told him: "OK, anyway you never come having homework, so why are you complaining about?" He stayed in the class after the lesson and after a long discussion we made an agreement of working and from that moment he became one of my best students. I believe everyone has a point that makes him work, collaborate and make the right thing.

Instead, the first couple of tests got awful marks. Probably that was due to emotional reasons, in a way I still don't know, but I didn't give up, I kept on trying and by the end of the year my tests were excellent as they used to be. The most important help came from my mum, who told me to work as though I had nothing to lose and to pay no importance to marks. Her trust in me really helped.

I understand that my subject (Art) is not always an interest to students and after working hours on a preparing a project, they just turn in minimal work after half an hour. The solution to this (which does not always work) is to find a subject of interest to the student and encourage them to use that as the theme for their project. With this, it can connect to them closer and perhaps develop a stronger interest.

3.

My motto is to never give up, in life and at work, as a teacher and as a mother, too. By giving up our students and children, we are taking on our failure. We can not expect to be always successful, but we must believe that the results can always be positive. The most difficult thing is to convey this to our students: to make them believe that they can always overcome their difficulties.

I remember that when I had just started teaching a few years ago (I was still a trainee) my trainee teacher visited one of my lessons and gave me a feedback on the lesson afterwards that made me feel awful and I didn't want to be a teacher anymore. However, I constantly tried to improve my lessons since then and got more positive feedbacks step by step from students as well as trainee teachers. I think that you need failure in your life as well as success in order to make progress. Hence, you should never give up when something doesn't work the first time that you try

We try to organise our lives in order to suceed this goal but that not always happen. If we really want to reach our goal and if we are surrounded by people who encourage us, then we will succeed. For example, as a tennis player, I was faced with defeat many times but I kept trying, practising and playing again and again. As a student, I studied hard to reach my final goal which was to enter the University. I had some failures that made me look back and realise my mistakes and focus on my target. Recently, I have been unsuccesful as a cook...but after a decade of "cooking experiments", persistence and effort, I have managed to cook really well! :-)))

But i knew that they lack in knowledge and need to be convinced so i worked hard and show them the results of the students after working on PBL approaches. Their children are now more confident have more knowledge taking lot of interest in studies and they know the basics. I am trying my best to adopt new learning and teaching methodologies and my project is to convert traditional schools of my country into 21st century schools.

I have always considered myself an innovative professional, aspiring to make a difference. In my 28-year teaching career I have been looking for solutions to my students‘ learning problems. This is how I devoted my free time to activities that stimulate their motivation, key competences and skills. PBL seemed to be the answer I had been looking for.

I decided to apply for bilateral project with an enthusiastic colleague from Belgium. Despite our tremendous efforts, our project was not approved for funding. That fact let her down, and she declined my offer to give it a second try. So, I started looking for other reliable partners for the 2014 call. And that was the biggest challenge I had ever faced so far: the introducing of the Erasmus+ programme. No one from my new contacts, some of them (unlike me) with a lot of experience with the Comenius programme, was quite sure what to do. So, I started to read all the available resources that could help me tune with the new programme. As a result, our project ‘Forensics and Creative Theatre‘ was among the very first ones, approved for funding. Three years later our project won the European quality label, and that makes me feel not only proud, but also happy that I didn't give up trying.

Now I feel satisfied and energised because the outcomes of my persistence have proved me right.

Last year I was teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in the US. At the beginning I struggled with my students not even trying to speak Spanish so I decided to show them that if they didn't try speaking Spanish I wouldn't answer all the questions they had about life and culture in Spain. I told them, "the more you try, the funnier the lessons will be" and shortly after the beginning of the year they were making their first attempts. They realised that the more they tried, the more they learnt. They all passed the course succesfully and with a desire to go to Spain and put their Spanish into practice!

So I decided to change my lessons and, for example, divide students in groups giving them different kind of tasks according to their needs. During last years the number of students with bad marks at the end of the school year is diminished. Now I have understood that you have to change your methodology when necessary and to device new strategies to reach the goal.

At this time I can not focus on a more significant problem than others to share with you. School is the place for problems, because it is the place of so many crosses, so many expectations, so many perspectives of life, of so many meanings. People often assume that they have the same meanings in sentences and words but at school, where words become actions, to train and to educate, diversity emerges. Differences also reveal fears, ways of management, conflicts. The school carries daily problem situations and unexpected situations that also involve profoundly adults and children.

Maybe I have no problem because if you are not in the situation, if you do not know the context are always the same things, distant quads, almost boring. But when you are in it, when it's our school, our students, our relationships with families, colleagues, and territory all change, we are in, firsthand.

Often problems are given by needing to understand better, serve time, serve attention, serve patience. It needs to be tried by modifying things that did not work. It takes care of the details. This also for the activities and tools. Here is the focus of the specific problem: in my school we are disconnected from the world! We do not often have a connection and we have few networks with the territory. There are several factors that this situation exists, and for me it is a problem. I'm trying to make small steps, in real terms, with what's there. As a priority, I have put in the use of a didactics that allows to develop the logic that underlies then to so many instruments and the joy of the beautiful, accurately.

The issue is delicate: consolidated culture offers reassuring scenarios where everyone has the ability to create expectations and forecasts on known roles.

I learned that if I need to make some changes, I must assume responsibility and weight, and because I want to be sensitive to the context in which I am, dialogue, respect the times and the ways.

Do not give up ... why do not you mind? Because whenever the problems are resolved or evolved, I learned something and I taught it more effectively and inclusive.

I also learned that contextual experience, if it is the only one, closes prospects and imagination, multiplies the burdens and increases costs, not just in monetary terms.

Sharing means learning, opening the imagination, asking and questioning, resizing and contextualizing, learning to choose time and goal, calibrating a sustainable and stimulating path. Analyzing, informing, sharing, addressing, developing memory, and perseverance have had and have , positive effects on my person and my professionalism because I teach based on my experience of taking care of my students' growth. So it seems obvious to me that it is not so much: it is the healthiest and most realistic route. From my point of view

Emma

The next lessons weren't better, I wasn¡t able to get to my students so I decides to talk to them. Asking just a few questions I realised waht the problem was, my attittude to my students were not the adecuate. I wasn't teaching them properly because I was like a robot with them because I was just worried not to give them all the knowledge I was supposed to. Since then, I put all myself in my lessons trying to talk in their language so they can understand me and I realised I give better lessons and that students have a better learning experience.

I felt very sad but I had no encouragement form my teachers who did not care about my interests. However, in spite of the fact that I could not get good scores, I wanted to achieve my goal which was to become able to speak and understand native speakers, I studied a lot but , now I understand that it depended on the type of methodology and the inefficient pedagogical approach, So I decided to work part time and save to afford travelling to England and attend a paying summer school. I did this for several years till I learned the language, but not only. Indeed I made a lot of friends, developed a more open mind and intercultural competences . In this way, I got my objective.

At the beginning of the course (at the preschool level) it is very important to work on habits and attitudes in the group. At first, with a certain group that was very numerous and with children who came without limits of behavior and with very high voice volumes, it was very difficult to get close to them and to accept the rules and habits of the classroom. After many attempts and different group dynamics that did not work, I thought of alternative activities that addressed the same themes but based on emotions. From a story "The monster of colors" we began to work as we felt and as we thought others felt and things began to change. Respect for others, for the material of the classroom and good relations between classmates were improving until they reached an ideal climate to work and enjoy.

So, I decided to study French (I only had the level of th high school). When I started, my teacher said to me that I had to study during a lot of years to get the title of B2, because I didn’t know how speak and how write in a correct way. In this moment, I thought that it was impossible that i could be a French speaker, but I decided to try. I studied during 6 months in an intensive way, and after that I did the test to get the B2 title and… I passed!!! I got 75/100 points. In this moment, I discovered that all things are possible if you really want it.

This is a story about how I became an innovative teacher and explanes, why I enrolled this course. When I started teaching Philosophy and Psychology, I used to offer to my students only academic staff. They complained and tried to learn by heart. I was frustrated, totaly disapointed and came to the conclusion, I don't have enough knowledge about how to simplify things. The teacher training offered at this time on my subjects in my country didn't help - it was almost the same I have studied at the University. Then I started using several opportunities offered by the EU Commission and other educational authorities. Attending Comenius and Erasmus+ courses, Pestalozzi Program and others, I gained knowledge about the 21st sentury skills, inovative pedagogy and practice. It was not easy to combine this knowledge with the very strict and academic curriculum, but I first did small steps and was happy to see the changes students have shown. At least, an opportunity was offered for shools and teachers to try inovarive teaching and my project succeeded. Now I am creating a new curriculum, which match with the innovative methods.

I started to work in a company which sells KTM motorcycles, and my responsibilities were to communicate with the factory and arrange all the purchases. At first I didn’t know anything about motorcycles, not speaking about spare parts. My willingness to learn and perseverance resulted in being able to communicate to professional motorcycle riders and translating to technical staff during training sessions. What’s more, I realized that I am ready to go for another BA degree in business management which I did. It wasn’t easy and most of the time I was out of my comfort zone, but I graduated from university. What is the conclusion of this story – I am now back at school for some 10 years already feeling very happy and thankful for all experiences in my life. Business knowledge definitely helps me working at school because it allows tackle the problems from different perspectives.

It was a difficult time for my country and many institutes have stopped working. But, as far as I am interested in art, after that I founded an art workshop (the rules of paintings, lamps, mirrors and I enjoyed it).
Now it's my hobby because I've been working in school for the past several years and I have a new challenge to prepare students well for digital skills for the 21st century. I am a person who does not give up easily and defeat is just a challenge for me to move on.

We have been doing some charity performances for 4 years and we would have liked to include them in the field of regional educational activities, but due to the very short deadlines and the methodology that was too busy and cumbersome we did not succeed last year. We persisted and this year we managed to submit the project on time to have hope for acceptance.

I'm a kindergarten teacher. When I finished my degree, I started working in a very small school. In the following school year I got to work for an international school, a little bigger. Four years ago I was able to start working in a bigger and better school where we teach using PBL. I had never worked on this system before, so everything was new to me. I had to learn what was project work, talk a lot with my colleagues, do a lot of research, go to a lot of training. I almost wanted to give it up at first, because I did not think I could do it. Nowadays, I consider my work to be quite valid and the result is quite visible in te children. I always keep trying to learn and learn more, but I can already say that I now know how to work on PBL.

The first year, our evaluation, although positive, was far from the level of selection. Last year, we didn’t give up, we went to the seminars where instructions are given , we payed much attention, and helping each other we made again the application, and finally with success.

A few years ago, when PBL was still an unknown pedagogical practice in Portugal, I read about it in some articles and knew that this would be the model to follow. Working in a private, very traditional school, the first reaction from the board was not to allow me to implement this model in my classroom. I was a bit frustrated, but I decided to join forces with another co-worker and we conceived a PBL implementation project, which, far from being perfect, already presented some pre-solutions to problems that might arise. After many meetings and revisions of the project, I was authorized to implement it. At the moment we are a PBL class, we are proud of our work and we have proven to the school board, and to the parents that this is the right way to educate our students if we want them to develop the competences for the new millenium

Their behaviour was different, they didn't understand jokes, their psychomotricity was very poor... I did not know how to work with this type of different student. They were obviously asperger. I was very frustated because I didn't do anything special to help them. A few years ago, I had a child with this syndrome at class again. I studied a lot about how to work with them. And I put it into practice, I think he was at least happy this year, and we learnt some methods to work with him. The family was very happy with our system and even I gave a conference about my experience with asperger children in the University of Alicante.

I’m a pianist and I normally have to face difficult excerpts and passages from some musical pieces. Sometimes I feel discouraged due to its complexity but then Music has its power and makes me be determined about solving the problem. This is my day to day life but I can remember specifically one situation as a student.

My teacher wanted me to play Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit, which is among the most technically demanding piano pieces. I was so pleased my teacher trusted me so much and considered me able to face the difficulties of that piece. When I started studying it I wasn’t aware of its complexity and after sitting in front of my piano for a month trying to go to the core of those insurmountable parts of the piece I really thought I wasn’t going to be able to finish it and sometimes I was determined to give up but I didn’t… and I’m glad I didn’t because after a WHOLE YEAR of hard work I felt I won eventually. I had beaten what at the time was to me the unbeatable. There were two things that made me stick to the problem and not give up: my teacher always made me feel I could do it because she trusted me; the second reason was because of Music itself. Music makes magic on me and makes the difficulties appear as a challenge what motivates me so much.

I am referring to my personal experience.
Being a new e twiner for me had been a big challenge. Firstly I had problems with my password. Then the platform looked like a labyrinth. I was lost in every time that I used to try to explore it. Also I was not very good in English language. But during this time I decided to explore totally in every thing this platform. So every day in the morning from 6 am, to 7 am I was exploring platform before going at work. Also in the evening for some hours I was doing the same .I had also a similar situation in my first online training with Cornelia during the period of time 01/03/2015 - 15/03/2015 Because of the problems with my password I started 4 days later this training, but I DID it, enjoyed so much and received a certificate

They cared in the wrong way about the lesson and they were motivated just to make troubles. So, i had to find a way to work with it and change their interest. That happenned when we decided to work on a theatrical perfomance that really motivated them as they were responsible for every task of this work. They started having a common goal and they tried hard to have the best results. Finally, focusing on that made them to see each other as a part of a team and play a football game without violence, attend a class without inappropriate behavior.

I felt frustrated when I was working some years ago in a class where some pupils had difficulties especially with the English grammar - I teach English as a second language. I tried to change the focus more to practical competences and I asked students to do a Webquest in small groups. The results were good as usual with the "good"pupils, but what I appreciated was seeing my "weak" students more at ease with the foreign language. I appreciated their efforts and results.
I learned to concentrate more on practical tasks, something which was less abstract. Another good thing is making pupils work in pairs or small groups because collaboration is very important, especially for "weak" students who feel sometimes unable to complete some tasks alone. They learn how to do them with their classmates and the teacher's help. I also learned from a student that they like having the teacher checking their work constantly, and I always go around desks to help them out when doing a task.

I decided to apply three days before the deadline and I did not manage to finish in time the application (if only I had one more hour!). I passed the theoretical test (develop one topic out of 69), then, I passed the practical test, I passed the oral defense of the syllabus I designed and my didactic unit, however, 8 out of 10 marks was not enough to get a post as a national teacher. The fact is that I had to experience three more times the same situation. I just wanted to give up. It was exhausting and very stressful at home. But finally I did. And now I am grateful for having such as incredible deaf students in my life. It has never been much of a challenge to keep up a 30 day-meditiation practice and the like. For me, giving something up that does not make sense any longer has always been much more of an issue and had to be learned the hard way. The most prominent example from my personal life is that I wanted to ‚force’ my daughter into a natural birthing process by all means but she ‚chose’ the Cesarian way into this world:) I know that I carry out things to the end by my sheer energy and willpower and I think we have to take into account here this type of learner personality as well - someone who is energetic and determined but might have a hard time being flexible and at ease with change and failure. We have to help these guys too, to, yes, hang in there but not force it.

I've been teaching for 17 years in a lower secondary school, I've been a wife and a mother for almost 20 years and I guess all my life has been a story of sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing, both at a professional and personal level.
Professionally speaking the introduction of new technologies maybe was the most challenging experience. I really like using ICT in life and in class, but it takes time and a lot of energy to master all new apps and software. But I'm also quite stubborn and my motto is learning by doing and doing and doing. So I usually succeed in the end. Another aspect of my professional life that has often been disappointing at first and rewarding in the end is dealing with special needs and dyslexic students . Sometimes I really feel frustrated because I arrange loads of materials and results are poor: seeing my students working harding but failing is painful, but when we work together it's easier. I always try
to encourage them not to give up and I think this is the winning attitude : reward them for their efforts and working out together the best path towards success.

It was so difficult! For the first time in my life I felt like a very bad student, who does not understand anything and cannot do anything correctly. Besides, I was pregnant and my older child just turned one. So I took 20 lessons and was feeling absolutely hopeless. Then the baby was born and I needed to take a break.
Now, 3 year later, I understood that I really need to learn this skill. I enrolled again, I am in the process and my current teacher says that I am not that hopeless.

Ten years ago I decided to try to contact a British school that would like to participate in a students exchange programme. At first I sent a mass email based on search results of schools in Cambridgeshire. I wrote to them asking for a penpal exchange. I thought it was a good starting point that would help us to talk about a future exchange programmes. Nobody answered back. So I decided to get in touch with the British Council. First they helped me to refine my search. What I had to look for schools whose curriculum included Spanish as a first or second foreign language. And if I could find schools that were part of the same Trust even better. Second I had to say in my email what I was really looking for: “I’d like to contact an English school that would like to participate in an exchange programme with Spanish students”. In a few days I received several answers. This is our seventh year running a successful students exchange programme. Besides this year some of our teachers will participate in a KA1 Erasumus + programme and be hosted in our twin exchange schools.

A few years ago I decided to give up this sport because I wanted to play con my friends in a Indoor Football championship. For the first three years we were playing properly but we weren´t able to obtain the first position, always in second position. We had much experience but didn´t achieve our goal. However, we never thought to give up at all. At the end, we were able to win our first championship for the fourth year together.

I have many times stuck with a task even if it seemed not to go my way both in my personal life and as an educator. I used to play football and retired from it due to injuries at the age of 29 so I decided to become a referee. I completed the course but I wasn't given any assignments that year. I didn't even get a call. I insisted and went and talked to the head of referees and finally I was trusted and started to referee in some games. I liked and enjoyed it a lot. I knew football well and was doing a pretty good job as a referee. They started to give me a lot of games and higher games to referee just a few moths later. I have many examples where good will and hard work eventually pays off. The point is not to work on it for a while if it gets stuck but to schedule it and visit it at organised periods to see if there is any changes in the context and opportunities. Everything changes and something that is not possible may become possible at another time. It's all about deciding on priorities and what you want to do with your time I believe.

Nowadays that there’s a lot of technology available and there are plenty of resources to use, it is difficult to decide what to use in your class. Sometimes you spend lots of time preparing an activity that you think is going to be both motivating and engaging for your students and once you start explaining it in class, you realize that some students are not motivated enough or find it useless or boring. This is not always the case, of course, but could be something disappointing for us. The thing is that if you keep innovating in class and you try to teach them with different methods, I think they will be more interested in your subject and will find learning more motivating.

But later, I tried some techniques like writing some basic sentences around the class, talking to them in English all the time, even when they did not understand, I used gestures and mimic till I got my goal. I also tried some daily routines where the students could understand because of the context. So little by little my students start understanding me and even, they try some sentences, and so on.

So, basically, I started as a scientist in the University I have studied but 5 years later I had to quit. Years later, I had to opportunity to be a Biology teacher in a secondary school. What really shocks me was that when I was giving the course, I felt exactly the same as I used to feel when I was making researching work in the lab. So, I decided to be a teacher and... here I am. To sum up, I think that my real passion is keep learning, and for that reason I will never be able to give up, does not matter the place I will stay.

I remember all too well when I started being a teacher and tried to do collaborative activities in class. At the beginning I simply used to have my students sit in groups and I somehow expected the magic to happen. I didn’t take into account assigning roles and distributing tasks properly, nor did I calculate the time I would need. I somehow focused more on the result I wanted to achieve but I failed to provide the necessary scaffolding. Also, my students noticed that I was new to this game which made me feel uncomfortable. Who wants to be considered incompetent, insecure or simply completely lost at a task? Leaving my comfort zone (which was standing in front of my class and in control of the situation while I was explaining grammar and doing a lot of exercises the traditional way) was a tough thing to do. Assuming and admitting that you fail and make mistakes in front of your students wasn’t an easy thing to do. But I kept going. And I realized that admitting that sometimes I’m lost at a task and that I have the right to be so was quite liberating. I don’t know all the answers – and I don’t need to. I am still learning.

Tasos, Greece. A certain class was not behaving properly, they did not -with few exceptions- participate and kept not paying attention to what was being taught. On top of that, they were not quiet, either. They always wanted to make jokes and be funny. So, something that came to me one day was to suggest we could have a funny theatrical performance. That, alongside with an excursion we had as a class helped a lot, was fruitful, but really a consuming.

She did not like to wear a hearing aid, so that she couldn't´t improve her spoken English. I did not know what to do. I tried many different things to make her understand that hearing aid was useful... Finally, I decided to offer her to join the theatre group (we were playing "Moulin Rouge"). She accepted and chose to dance at the ballet. As she could not listen to the music, she failed with the rhythm. She definitely decided to wear a hearing aid and she improved a lot.
I did not give up with the problem because I felt that possibly I was one of her last opportunities to help her. As any camp, the ultimate goal is children enjoy, have fun and, in this case, learn English in a very entertaining way. I was coordinator in two camps. In the first one, the first week four children left. I was very dissapointed cause I thought English camp will not be successful. However, I was wrong. The rest of children showed good impressiones about native monitors and everything about camp. And I continued as coordinator in the second camp and only one boy left home. Our work will often be by trial and error. We must make the effort to improve and learn from our mistakes. Make students able to build their learning through proposed problems that exposes them to motivating situations and prepares them for the world of work. Students work in groups and the teacher assumes the role of advisor. Each class consists of three main steps: problem diagnosis, problem solving and solution presentation.
