He was a kid at heart.

I first became aware of my dads genius the day I was born but it wasn’t till later in life that I discovered all the amazing accomplishments he had made in starting his own company. 

His constant dedication to his company, and great success over the years inspired me to want to start a business of my own. While I always knew that he started a construction company with just one truck, I wasn’t sure how he went from that to owning hundreds of trucks and machines.

After taking business classes in highschool I was very curious as to how my dad had done everything by the book. I decided to interview him for a my humanities curiosity conversation and try to understand his thought process on finding success.

I interviewed my father for about 25 minutes and was honestly really shocked by how wise he was. He has gotten to a point in his career where he is able to look back on his success and understand what got him to the point he is at. He was so disappointed he had to end the interview to go to a meeting but made sure to continue the conversation with me for the next few dinners. 

I never realised that my dad wasn’t a businessman. He was a guy who loved construction and figured out how to make the thing he loved the most into a business. As he said “If you put effort into something you love, you will be very good at it” More than ever I realize that you can’t just work hard at a job you hate or not work too hard at a job your talented at, you need to find a good balance of both.

That is the key to success.
